GRAD 2008
Student Representative Speech
by Jacob McDonald
First off, I just want to say I’m honored to be up representing
the graduating class of 2008. I hope I make you guys proud and I hope
you’re comfortable (as I shuffle through a large stack of paper).
Just kidding, this is one of Mr. Bertrand’s notes. Anyways…it’s
hard to believe that this is one of the last times, or possibly the
last time that this entire class will be in the same room together.
So much is going change after tonight.
It’s going to be weird not hearing Mrs. Sheppard screaming her
face off at 8:45 in the morning when the music starts to play. I mean,
singing ever so beautifully. How are we supposed to start our day
without that? It’s practically part of our complete breakfast.
And I know we’re all going to miss learning the secrets of the
universe in Mr. Tilston’s physics class, and Mr. Bertrand laughing
hysterically at Shakespeare when it’s not that funny. Sure blowing
up stuff and setting things on fire at home is fun, but it’ll
never compare to Mr. Duranleau’s chemistry classes. But I don’t
think anyone is going to miss being slayed by Mr. Taylor’s math
tests. No offence sir, but we try to suppress those memories.
The best thing about graduating will definitely be going to the washroom
without having to get an agenda signed. I’m sure it was a great
idea in theory, but it had some holes in it. I mean one of the only
teachers who actually stopped us in the halls was Mr. Madill, and
he’s way too happy-go-lucky for that. (In an extremely perky
voice) “Hey, stop right there! Where do you think you’re
going without an agenda? Gosh darn, you know the rules. You can’t
leave class unless you get your agenda signed by your teacher. This
is the third time I’ve told you today, you’re making me
so angry. I don’t know if that’s from too much coffee
or just good old-fashioned Spartan spirit.
Over the past four years we’ve had a lot of fun, and we definitely
ended our high school careers on a high note with the Europe trip.
For those of you who weren’t on the trip, allow me to summarize
it for you. It started off with a plane ride like this (acting out
turbulence) and all you could hear was people going like this (throwing
up sound effect). Aside from that we saw a lot of beautiful and historic
sights. But the best part was definitely the gypsies. They tried to
sell us their treasures, but they did not trick us (said in an accent).
Not only have we had a lot of fun over the years, we’ve also
achieved so much. Whether it was academic or extra-curricular, we’ve
all accomplished something important. This room is filled with great
minds, athletes, musicians, artists, actors, actresses; you name it.
And best of all, this room is filled with great people who have a
lot of potential.
For those of you who are going off to school next year, I want to
wish you all the best. I think it’s great that you’ve
chosen a path you want to follow and you’re ready to face the
next big challenge. Or maybe you just want to give mom and dad one
of these (wave goodbye) and get a taste of freedom. That’s cool
too. For those of you who are taking a victory lap, I wish you all
the best as well and I hope you find a path that’s right for
you too.
‘Nuff said. Let’s get this show on the road so we can
go make some memories. Thank you!
