CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
TEAM
For the athletes at EHS
who run on the cross country or track team..
We start training the second week of school and don't stop until June.
Producing blood, sweat or tears at a workout is no surprise.
Most of us have run up the ski hill more times than we've skiied down
it.
We know every curve and bend of the Domtar Trails.
'Water treatment plant', 'Where the pavement ends' and 'I'll meet
you at the ski hill' are three phrases that no Spartan runner likes
to hear.
We run in rain or shine.... or snow.... or tornados.
With that description of
the team, the Cross-country Running team is composed of 30 students
in Grades 9 - 12 who run for personal fitness or compete to be the
best in Ontario and all levels in between. Mr. Gallant is the coach
of the team and students are welcome to come out for runs at any time.
The only required equipment is a good pair of running shoes, a "never
quit" attitude and a good sense of humour. The team does run
all year long for students who are interested, so if that is you will
need more clothing to keep you warm when running through the snow
storms on those no-bus days.
2007 was a great year for
the EHS XC team: For the first time in Spartan History an EHS team
was crowned best in Northern Ontario. The Spartan Junior Girls team
of Caroline Ehrhardt, Chantal Powers, Hailey Laframboise, Melody Fraser
and Olivia Ruby defeated all other Junior Girl teams at the NOSSA
Cross-Country Running Championships for the gold. The gold medal was
doubly sweet for Caroline Ehrhardt who won the individual gold medal
as well to earn her 5th victory of the season.
Other XC Running team results
include:
Junior Girls - NSSSA Champions,
OFSAA - 27th place in Ontario
Junior Boys - NSSSA Champions
Midget Boys - NSSSA 2nd place
Senior Boys - NSSSA 2nd place
