Two athletes from Rainbow Schools on Team Canada for World Juniors
Two Rainbow District School Board athletes will be part of Team Canada competing at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick from July 19 to 25, 2010.
Caroline Ehrhardt of Espanola High School was a double gold medalist in long jump and triple jump at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships held in Moncton on July 2 to 4. Her winning long jump was 5.79 metres. The gold medal triple jump was 12.54 metres, 59 centimetres ahead of second place.
Caroline is one of only four athletes out of 59 that make up Team Canada that will be participating in two events at the World Juniors. The triple jump preliminary round will take place on July 21st, with the finals the next day. The long jump preliminary round will take place on July 22nd, with the finals on July 23rd.
Ross Proudfoot of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School finished second in the 5000 metre race in a time of 14 minutes, 43.35 seconds. This spectacular result secured his spot on Team Canada. The men's 5000 metre race will take place on July 24th.
