Principal appointments and transfers effective September 2010


Some of the Rainbow District School Board’s elementary and secondary schools will welcome new Principals when classes resume on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010.

Chris Bourré
Principal
Copper Cliff Public School (JK to Grade 8 English)

Chris Bourré is the new Principal of Copper Cliff Public School, which offers JK to Grade 8 education in English. Prior to his appointment, he served as Principal of Adamsdale Public School and Vice-Principal of Northeastern Elementary School. He has also served as Lead Teacher at George Vanier Public School.  With 17 years of experience in elementary schools in Sudbury and Parry Sound, he has taught all grades in both the English and French Immersion programs.  Principal Bourré looks forward to working with students, staff, families and community partners at Copper Cliff Public School.


Dawn Chew
Principal
Adamsdale Public School (JK to Grade 6 English)

Dawn Chew has been an administrator with Rainbow District School Board for the past 10 years. She assumes the role of Principal of Adamsdale Public School following four years at Copper Cliff Public School. She has also served as Principal of Algonquin Road Public School, Long Lake Public School and Monetville Public School. Over the years, Principal Chew has worked with the local community on a number of children’s initiatives, including Best Start. She looks forward to her new role at Adamsdale Public School, which provides excellence in education from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6.


Susan Cousineau
Principal
Redwood Acres Public School (JK to Grade 5 English)

Susan Cousineau served as Principal of Larchwood Public School for the past three years. A resident of Valley East, she looks forward to assuming her new role as Principal of Redwood Acres Public School where she served as a Lead Teacher for three years. Redwood Acres Public School provides excellence in education in the English program to students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5. Since launching her career in 1995, Susan Cousineau has taught in primary, junior and intermediate divisions. She joined Rainbow District School Board in 2001.


Trevor Dewit
Principal
Larchwood Public School (JK to Grade 8 English)

Trevor Dewit has been appointed Principal of Larchwood Public School. For the past two years, he served as Vice-Principal of MacLeod Public School. Prior to this, he was acting Vice-Principal of Valley View Public School and Val Caron Public School. A former Grade 7 and 8 teacher, he continues to be actively involved in Math, Science and Technology Olympics, Science Fair and Elementary Volleyball. Principal Dewit is a graduate of Confederation Secondary School and Laurentian University. He looks forward to working with the Larchwood School community.


Paul Dupont
Principal
R.L. Beattie Public School (JK to Grade 8 French Immersion)

Paul Dupont assumes the role of Principal of R.L. Beattie Public School with 13 years of experience as an elementary school administrator. As Principal of Valley View Public School for the past eight years, he had the privilege of leading the first green school in Northern Ontario. Valley View Public School has become a model for education in sustainable development. Principal Dupont looks forward to his new role at R.L. Beattie Public School, where he worked as a teacher for five years.  He has more than 20 years of experience in education, all in the French Immersion program.


Gisèle LaLonde

Valley View Public School (JK to Grade 8 French Immersion)

Gisèle LaLonde has been appointed Principal of Valley View Public School, the Rainbow District School Board’s first green school. She served as Principal of Levack Public School for the past four years. A versatile educator with 18 years of experience in public education locally, she has worked with students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, as a classroom teacher and school administrator.  Prior to joining the staff of Levack Public School, she served as Vice-Principal at Northeastern Elementary School and Principal at Copper Cliff Public School.


Colleen McDonald
Principal
Princess Anne Public School (Early Learning Program to Grade 6, English)
Wembley Public School (Early Learning Program to Grade 8, English)

Colleen McDonald has been Principal of Wembley Public School since January 2008. Effective this fall, she will also assume the leadership of Princess Anne Public School, which is currently being renovated. Prior to joining the staff at Wembley, Colleen McDonald served as Principal of Cyril Varney Public School and Vice-Principal of Churchill Public School. A versatile educator, she has a strong background in literacy and special education. She has also been a provincial and regional trainer for the Ministry of Education’s Guide to Effective Instruction K-3 and Grade 5 Shared Reading Guide.


Lynn MacDonell
Principal
A.B. Ellis Public School (Early Learning Program to Grade 8 English)

Lynn MacDonell has been appointed Principal of A.B. Ellis Public School in Espanola, one of six Rainbow Schools offering the new Early Learning Program this fall.  She served as Principal of Webbwood Public School for three years and Vice-Principal of Churchill Public School for three years.  Prior to becoming an administrator, Lynn MacDonell taught all grades in the French Immersion and English programs, including Core French. She also taught special education.  Principal MacDonell looks forward to working with A.B. Ellis students, staff, parents and community partners.


Jack Mallette
Principal
Levack Public School (JK to Grade 8 English and French Immersion)

Jack Mallette, the new Principal of Levack Public School, served as Principal of R.H. Murray Public School for the past six years. Prior to that, he was Principal of Queen Elizabeth Public School and Assiginack Public School. Principal Mallette has been an educator for almost 30 years. He spent many years teaching French as a Second Language.  He also served as a librarian, a guidance counselor, and, most recently, an early reading intervention teacher. Principal Mallette looks forward to working with the Levack Public School community to promote excellence in education in both official languages.


Kendra Mihell
Principal
S. Geiger Public School (JK to Grade 8 English)
Webbwood Public School (JK to Grade 8 English)

Kendra Mihell has been the Principal of S. Geiger Public School for the past two years.  Effective this fall, she will also assume the leadership of Webbwood Public School. Both schools offer the English program in Kindergarten to Grade 8. Principal Mihell has taught primary, junior and intermediate students. She also has experience in special education.  Principal Mihell looks forward to working with the S. Geiger Public School community in Massey and the Webbwood Public School community in Webbwood.


Terry Moss

Ernie Checkeris Public School (JK to Grade 3 French Immersion)
Carl A. Nesbitt Public School (Grade 4 to 8 French Immersion)

Terry Moss has been appointed Principal of Ernie Checkeris Public School and Carl A. Nesbitt Public School following three years as Principal of A.B. Ellis Public School.  Prior to joining the elementary panel, Terry Moss served as Vice-Principal of Lively District Secondary School and Lockerby Composite School.  With 30 years of experience, she has taught various subjects at the secondary level, including physical education, computers, guidance, and co-operative education. A graduate of Rainbow Schools, Principal Moss looks forward to continuing to build on the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 French Immersion program in the New Sudbury area.


Cathy Nursall
Principal
Wanup Public School (JK to Grade 8, English)

Cathy Nursall has been appointed Principal of Wanup Public School, which offers Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 in the English Program. Prior to joining the staff at Wanup, Cathy Nursall served as Vice-Principal of Valley View Public School and MacLeod Public School for four years.  Cathy Nursall has taught all grades from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 at a number of Rainbow Schools, primarily in the French Immersion program. She began her teaching career in Toronto before moving to Sudbury in 1985. Principal Nursall looks forward to leading the team at Wanup Public School.


Gisèle Sivret
Principal
Queen Elizabeth Public School (Early Learning Program to Grade 6, English)

Gisèle Sivret is the new Principal of Queen Elizabeth Public School, one of six sites offering the new Early Learning Program this fall.  For the past three years, she has been the Vice-Principal of Lansdowne Public School.  Prior to this, she was Acting Vice-Principal and Lead Teacher of R.L. Beattie Public School.  An elementary educator with Rainbow Schools for the past 18 years, Gisèle Sivret has experience as a classroom teacher, resource teacher, literacy resource teacher, early reading intervention teacher and administrator.  Principal Sivret looks forward to working with the entire school community.


Michelle Walton
Principal
MacLeod Public School (JK to Grade 8, English)

Michelle Walton, the new Principal of MacLeod Public School, has been Principal of Redwood Acres Public School for the past six years. She also served as Principal of Adamsdale Public School. Before becoming an administrator, Michelle Walton taught in London, New Liskeard, Port Hope and Sudbury in both elementary and secondary schools. Principal Walton looks forward to working with the community and the staff of MacLeod Public School to promote ongoing excellence in academics and character development.


Danielle Williamson
Principal
R.H. Murray Public School (JK to Grade 8, English)

Danielle Williamson has been appointed Principal of R. H Murray Public School.  For the past year, she served as Vice-Principal of Wembley Public School.  Prior to this, she was Vice-Principal of Northeastern Elementary School and Lead Teacher at Markstay Public School.  Principal Williamson has been a primary, junior and intermediate teacher and has led the Rainbow District School Board's Go Green initiative for the past seven years.  By building strong relationships with students, parents and community members, Principal Williamson looks forward to ensuring success for all at R.H. Murray Public School.


Pablo Gil-Alfau
Principal
Confederation Secondary School (Grade 9 to 12, English and French Immersion)

Pablo Gil-Alfau served as Principal of Princess Anne Public School during the past school year. Prior to this, he was Vice-Principal of Chelmsford Valley District Composite School. He returns to the secondary panel as Principal of Confederation Secondary School where he taught science, biology and physical education from 1998 to 2001 and also served as guidance counsellor. Pablo Gil-Alfau joined the Board in 1997 as a teacher at Manitoulin Secondary School. He looks forward to leading a strong community school with excellence in education.


Leslie Mantle
Principal
Lively District Secondary School (Grade 7 and 8 English and French Immersion/ Grade 9 to 12 English)

Leslie Mantle, the new Principal of Lively District Secondary School, served as Principal of Chelmsford Valley District Composite School for the past three years. She also served as Principal of Sudbury Secondary School for four years. Prior to becoming a school administrator, Principal Mantle taught all grade levels in both official languages at George Vanier Public School and Lively District Secondary School. A graduate of the Board’s French Immersion program, Principal Mantle looks forward to working with the Lively District Secondary School community to foster ongoing excellence and success for all.


Mike Mirka
Principal
Chelmsford Valley District Composite School (Grade 7 to 12 English and French Immersion)

Mike Mirka is the new Principal of Chelmsford Valley District Composite School. He served as Principal of Confederation Secondary School for eight years and Vice-Principal for three years. With 19 years of experience in education, Mike Mirka has worked in both the elementary and secondary panels, including assignments at Levack District High School, Confederation Secondary School, and Sudbury Secondary School where he taught biology, chemistry, science, math and computers. A champion of community schools, Mike Mirka looks forward to his new leadership role.


Judy Noble
Student Success Leader
Gord Ewin Centre for Education

As Student Success Leader, Principal Judy Noble will share her expertise on a system-wide basis to provide opportunities for all students in Grades 7 to 12 to achieve success. She has 21 years of experience with Rainbow Schools, including 11 years in senior leadership roles. Judy Noble served as a Vice-Principal at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and Lockerby Composite School, and Principal of Copper Cliff Public School and, most recently, Lively District Secondary School. Judy Noble has also been an Education Officer with the Ministry of Education.
