Wear Vintage: Rainbow Schools host Green Consumer Day on September 28th
Rainbow District School Board is inviting students and staff to wear vintage clothing in support of Green Consumer Day on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.
This Go Green initiative is part of the Environmental Committee’s ongoing efforts to encourage everyone to adopt sustainable practices and make what’s old new again.
“Wearing vintage clothing is a great way to learn the importance of practicality in sustainability, since the greenest item is the one that already exists,” says Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “This challenge will help us to reflect on how our purchasing behaviour impacts climate change.”
“Wearing vintage clothing is a great way to Go Green in a stylish way. Vintage clothing can include borrowed clothing from parents/guardians, grandparents, friends and family,” he adds. “Everyone is encouraged to dig deep into closets, attics and boxes to pull together a vintage outfit and feel good knowing that they are making a statement about the environment.”
Rainbow District School Board’s Environmental Committee will be issuing monthly challenges to staff and students throughout the school year.
What will next month’s challenge be?
