Red Seal Program
(Interprovincial Standards Program)
What is the Red Seal Program?
The Red Seal Program also known as the Interprovincial Standards Program was established to provide skilled trades people with greater mobility to move throughout Canada. The Red Seal Program encourages the standardization of Provincial/Territorial training and certification programs. The Red Seal is issued by the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship in co-operation with the Provincial, Territorial and Federal Governments.
The majority of trades in Ontario are now designated as Interprovincial trades.
How does a person obtain a “Red Seal”?
This seal can be obtained by graduating from a recognized Provincial or Territorial apprenticeship program or by obtaining a journey level Certificate of Qualification from a Province or Territory and by passing the Interprovincial Standards Examination.
