The staff, students and community at Adamsdale Public School promote high standards for all students.Academics are balanced with athletic opportunities as well as good citizenship skills. In June 2008, Adamsdale Public School was named a “School On The Move” by the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat in recognition of our use of research-based strategies to support continuous improvement in student achievement.
Adamsdale is an English Public School focused on the development of knowledge, attitudes and skills that children need to be contributing, confident members of their community. Adamsdale Public School fosters respect for cultural diversity, gender, equality, personal independence and social responsibility.
Adamsdale provides the regular English program for students from JK to Grade 6. We are very pleased this year to offer every day, all day JK starting in September. Our enrolment is approximately 180 students, but fluctuates throughout the year. We focus on teaching students the importance of responsibility, tolerance, friendship, respect and good manners. We also promote good citizenship through the Seven Grandfather Teachings and participate in Roots of Empathy which teaches these skills through the eyes of a newborn.
Adamsdale Public School is largely built on one level, with the library, computer lab and washrooms on an upper level accessed by five steps. The school was renovated in 2000, making it accessible for all students and families. Ramps were installed to the upper level as well as the front and back of the school.
There are 10 homeroom classes and there is one Special Education Resource Room in the school. A large gymnasium stocked with many physical education supplies serves our students well. We have a library and a computer lab, and each class visits regularly. The playground is large and spacious with one baseball field, a playing field for soccer and a basketball court. We also have climbing equipment surrounded by a large sandbox.
Adamsdale Public School hosts the YMCA before and after school daycare program. We service families from the following geographic locations: the Kingsway, Lake Ramsey South, Howey Drive and Bancroft Drive. The majority of our students are bused to school. Upon graduation from grade six, our students leave and spend their intermediate years at Churchill Public School.
Our School Council is an active and positive force in the community. Reading and best efforts of students are supported by community partners in many ways.
Dedicated staff and volunteers operate the Breakfast Program and the Healthy Snack program at the school. The staff is a cohesive, friendly and caring group who work cooperatively to promote a positive learning environment. We all believe that the purpose of education is to foster an environment that enables students to be productive, confident, responsible and well-rounded individuals, dedicated to life-long learning.
