The Priority Schools Initiative is an after school strategy, developed by the Ministry of Education, that provides funding for the Board to keep school doors open seven days a week, all year long. This enables neighbourhood groups and organizations to bring in their activities at reduced or no cost rates for participants. This is good news for you and, more importantly, for the children and families of our neighbourhoods who benefit from the services that you provide. Priority access is given to neighbourhood not-for-profit groups and organizations who promote activities of healthy well being, community stabilization and/or opportunities for individuals to reach their potential.
Priority Schools Initiative in Rainbow Schools
Rainbow District School Board has five schools designated as Priority Schools for community use. They include:
- A.B. Ellis Public School in Espanola
- Adamsdale Public School in Sudbury

Booking a School Facility
Groups can book school facilities online through the Community Use of Schools Online Permit Application System. Facilities available at each school are featured on an online calendar by date and time.
In accordance with Board Policy 4.10 Use of Schools by Outside Organizations, groups renting facilities within Rainbow District School Board are required to provide proof of liability coverage prior to the event. Organizations are required to submit their certificate of insurance listing Rainbow District School Board as “Additionally Insured”.
Insurance can also be purchased from the Board, assisting groups in securing coverage at low premium rates. To purchase, use the dropdown box under the Insurance section of the Online Permit Application System and choose the “Purchase Insurance” option.
