This year, Native Studies teachers had the opportunity to get together four times during the year to learn more about First Nation, Métis and Inuit histories, cultures and traditions. These meetings also provided them with the opportunity to network with other Native Studies teachers from across the Board. This year special guest presentations have included medicine teachings from Brian Assinewe and Evie Moores from Sagamok First Nation, information about treaties from Alan Corbiere (Ojibwe Cultural Foundation) and Elder teachings hosted by Laurentian University. Their latest network meeting included presentations from various professors from the Native Studies Department at the University of Sudbury and from the School of Education. Topics included Indigenous Knowledge and Spirituality and strategies for effectively implementing Native content into the classroom.
