Indigenous author speaks about impact of residential schools
Rainbow District School Board will host guest speaker Dr. Jenny Kay Dupuis on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. An Indigenous author, she will talk about the impact of residential schools and moving forward with Truth and Reconciliation.
Dr. Dupuis’ presentation “I Am Not a Number: Acknowledging the Truth, Reconciling the Past and Honouring Community Voices” will take place at Queen Elizabeth II Public School from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
Dr. Jenny Kay Dupuis of Anishinaabe/Ojibway ancestry is a proud member of Nipissing First Nation. An educator, researcher, artist, and conference speaker, she has over 15 years of experience supporting the advancement of Indigenous education at all levels.
An interest in her family’s past and her commitment to teaching about truth and Indigenous realities through literature drew her to co-write ‘I Am Not a Number’, her first children’s book about her granny’s experience at a residential school. She lives in Toronto.
This free event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Childcare and refreshments will be provided.
Queen Elizabeth II Public School is located at 32 Dell Street in Sudbury.
