Description: Led by school administrators, staff will review the OHRC “Call it out” training module. Topics will focus on addressing racism, including antisemitism, anti-Black racism, Islamophobia, and racism towards Indigenous communities. Staff will engage in discussion on the importance of creating supportive classrooms, free of discrimination of any form, as well as curriculum programming information related to addressing racism and the promotion of inclusion.

Description: Staff will view a presentation by Professor Christian Muise (Queen's University) focused on how artificial intelligence functions and potential challenges and benefits of its use in educational settings. Information services will provide an overview of cybersafety and cybersecurity best practices and relevant legislation. Staff will also review board guidelines regarding artificial intelligence and digital literacy.

Description: Educators will engage in professional learning focused on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Universal Design for Learning is an instructional framework intended to provide accessible teaching and learning experiences for all students. Sessions for the day will include keynote speakers and subject specific workshops from K-12, with a focus on using UDL to support effective instruction in a variety of subject areas.

Kindergarten staff will engage in role-specific training related to reading screening and best practices related to literacy and numeracy instruction.

Description: In accordance with Memorandum dated August 12, 2025: Mandatory Professional Activity Days, staff will engage in a presentation led by Board staff and a Staff Sergeant from the Greater Sudbury Police Service highlighting the Ontario North East Region Safe Schools Protocol in addition to the role of the School Resource Officer. This presentation will also provide an overview of age-appropriate educational public safety presentations that the police can deliver to students. The goal of the session will be to showcase the role of the police in the school community to support trust building between educators, policing services, students, and parents/guardians.

Topic (Elementary / Secondary): Keeping Schools Safe

Description: School staff will review prevalent medical conditions protocols/procedures. Staff will renew their yearly mandatory Occupational Health and Safety training as well as policies and procedures designed to keep students and staff safe and healthy at school.
In accordance with Memorandum dated August 12, 2025: Mandatory Professional Activity Days, school staff will review bullying: recognition and responses, child sexual abuse prevention and reporting (Erin’s Law), duty to report children in need of protection to a child welfare agency, Provincial Code of Conduct, progressive discipline, violence prevention and violent incident reporting, as well as student safety plans.
