What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

2018-2019 Update – Quick links to resources

The Ministry of Education recently released resources for the 2018-2019 School Year in two important areas – Health and Physical Education and Mathematics.

This update provides parents/guardians with quick links to facilitate access to information.

As always, we encourage parents/guardians who have questions about the curriculum to talk to their child’s classroom teacher.

Open communication between the school and the home is the most effective way to support student success and well-being.

Health and Physical Education

The Health and Physical Education curriculum that was last taught in 2014 – The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1–8: Health and Physical Education, Interim Edition, 2010 – will be taught in all schools in Ontario, including Rainbow Schools.

The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1–8: Health and Physical Education, Interim Edition, 2010 can be accessed at the following link:

This curriculum will be in effect until the Ministry of Education releases a new document.

There are no changes to the curriculum for Grades 9 to 12. Secondary schools will continue to teach the Health and Physical Education curriculum that was issued in 2015.

Mathematics

The Ministry of Education has released A Parent’s Guide to the Fundamentals of Math – Grades 1 to 8 along with a teacher’s guide to support ongoing efforts in building student knowledge and skills in mathematics.

Making sure that students have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of math is one of the best ways to prepare them for success, now and in the future. What students learn today will help best position them to solve everyday problems and to increase their employability in tomorrow’s economy.
