What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

Arts Education Workshops at Sudbury Secondary School

Sudbury Secondary School is offering a series of free arts education workshops for all students in Grades 6 to 8. Two workshops will take place every Sunday starting November 16th and ending November 30th, 2014, from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. 
Each workshop will touch on key aspects of arts education including music theatre, acrylic painting, visual arts, brass instruments, media arts and drama.
The Song and Dance Music Theatre Workshop will take place on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Alongside Sudbury Secondary School’s vocal and drama teachers, participants will explore the Mary Poppins song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Students are asked to bring loose fitting clothing and dance shoes.
The Acrylic Still Life Painting Workshop for participants will focus on under-painting to effectively create light and shadow, and develop the illusion of form. 
On Sunday, November 23, 2014, during the Visual Arts Workshop, participants will engage in wax paper resistance painting, a simple abstract technique using wax paper and liquid watercolors. 
The Beauty of Brass Instruments Workshop will introduce participants to the basic techniques involved in playing the trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone and/or tuba.
On Sunday, November 30, 2014, during the Media Arts Workshop, participants will learn valuable ways to use colour keying/green screening for personal, education and business purposes. Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Express Electronic software will be used. Electronic access to photos or videos for this workshop is preferred. 
The Drama Workshop will introduce drama games and the power of storytelling through process drama. Students will study the dramatic possibilities behind a story, and text and experience role-play.
