C.R. Judd Public School hosted a grand opening to unveil its new outdoor play structure on Friday, October 23, 2015.

Fundraising for the outdoor equipment began in 2013. To date, the school has raised some $30,000 through community donations and a variety of events such as BINGO, hot dog days, fun fairs, dances and Capreol Oldtimers hockey games.

Parent volunteer Tracey LeGrand spearheaded the initiative. “Tracey LeGrand reached out to a number of community members and local organizations to help get this project started,” said C.R. Judd Public School Principal Jacques Mantha. “We are extremely grateful for her hard work and dedication.”

He added: “We also extend sincere thanks to the many staff, students, parent volunteers, local businesses and community members such as Allan Auger for helping transform our school grounds into a space that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle for the entire community.”

The impressive structure includes multiple platforms and a variety of slides and climbers. Also added to the grounds is an 18 x 18 foot sandbox. Shade trees and flowerbeds will be added in the future to finalize the schoolyard enhancement project.

“Our schoolyard is a space where students can play safely, exercise regularly and develop essential motor and social skills that will help them now and in the future,” said Principal Mantha.
