Churchill Public School educator receives LDAS Teacher of the Year Award

A special education resource teacher at Churchill Public School has received the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury (LDAS) Teacher of the Year Award. LDAS Chair Liz Brett-Dickie presented the award to Jennifer Harvey during the regular meeting of Rainbow District School Board on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

“Our Board of Directors really wanted to recognize outstanding educators who work day in and day out to release the power of students with learning disabilities,” said Liz Brett-Dickie. “The LDAS Teacher of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional educator who consistently supports, encourages and advocates for the success of students with learning disabilities, truly understands the needs of students with learning disabilities, and works tirelessly to help them reach their full potential.”

A committed, dedicated and student-focused educator, Jennifer Harvey joined Rainbow District School Board in 1998. While she has taught at a variety of schools in a variety of roles, her greatest strength is working with students who have learning disabilities.

“Over the last 12 years, she has focused on working with children who have special needs and I have personally witnessed her make great gains,” said Churchill Public School Principal David Farrow. “Her ability to facilitate student-centred learning, coupled with her ability to empower students, makes the student real stakeholders in the educational process.”

Principal Farrow said Jennifer Harvey is an exceptional teacher who consistently supports, encourages and advocates for the success of students with learning disabilities. “Her energy, enthusiasm and positive attitude in her work inspires her students to succeed,” he added.
