Copper Cliff students donate $1,000 to elementary school in Fort McMurray
When a class of Grade 3 students at Copper Cliff Public School learned of the devastating fire in Fort McMurray, they decided to help. Touched by the story of an elementary school principal who bravely helped students and community members evacuate, the class chose the principal’s school as the focus of their efforts.
To raise funds, students hosted a pasta lunch, collected donations from staff and students and even set aside a portion of their year-end trip fund for the cause. In total, students raised $1,000 for the Father Turcotte Elementary School in Fort McMurray. The entire class participated, including back row, from left Leina Mills, Jenna Beasley, Caelan Davie, Maddex Corrigan-Law, Mathew Gofenko, Avery Jorgensen, Mathieu Lafleur, Justin Chenier, Tessa Gour and Miranda Kingsbury; and front row, from left Brennan Davie, Evelyn Holloway, Marley Newell-Barrette, Jini VanDerWesthuizen, Brennan Labelle, Hope Merrylees, Faith Merrylees and Laina Munro.
