Emily Caruso Parnell appointed Principal of Elementary Remote Learning

Rainbow District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Emily Caruso Parnell as Principal of Elementary Remote Learning for the 2020-2021 School Year. Remote learners in Kindergarten to Grade 8 will start school on Friday, September 11, 2020. This includes students in Rainbow District School Board’s Intensive Support Programs who are learning from home.

“Approximately 19 per cent of students in Rainbow Schools have opted to learn online instead of in class,” said Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “At the elementary level, students will have a remote learning teacher. Remote learners at the secondary level will connect live to their classes in school.”

Emily Caruso Parnell began her teaching career in the Toronto District School Board and has taught in private, independent and public schools at all levels. Since joining Rainbow Schools, she has served as a curriculum consultant/coordinator with responsibility for the Arts, Experiential Learning and Kindergarten. She has also been a classroom teacher at Westmount Avenue Public School, Alexander Public School and Ernie Checkeris Public School. Prior to her recent appointment, she was Vice-Principal of R.L. Beattie Public School.

A proud graduate of the French Immersion program at Lasalle Secondary School, Emily Caruso Parnell earned degrees from York University, the University of New Brunswick and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She is a Doctoral Candidate in the Doctor of Distance Education program at Athabasca University.

As a student and dancer, Emily Caruso Parnell trained and performed in ballet and modern dance across North America. She is a registered teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance and is a content advisor for the Sharing Dance program of Canada’s National Ballet School. She continues to choreograph, teach and perform locally as she leads and mentors young dancers.
