Festive Events in Rainbow Schools 2018

Adamsdale Public School
Adamsdale Public School will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 12th at 12 pm and again at 6 pm. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Monday, December 17th. The concert will include performances from each class and the school choirs. There is no charge for this event. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Algonquin Road Public School
Algonquin Road Public School will host a Christmas concert on Monday, December 17th at 12 pm in the school gym. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 will perform. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Tuesday, December 18th at 12 pm.

Students will host a potluck lunch on Wednesday, December 19th at 11:30 am for Grades 4 and 5, and at 12:30 pm for Grades 6 to 8. Parents/guardians and families are invited.

The community is welcome to attend a holiday concert in support of the Joan Mantle Trust on Thursday, December 20th at 12 pm. Admission is a $5 donation to the Trust.

Assiginack Public School
On November 7th, students from Assiginack Public School’s Grade 3/4 class kicked off the holiday season by packing and sending boxes of goods to Canadian Armed Forces members who are deployed overseas.

Ojibway language students are collecting small gift items and donations for Friendship Boxes, which will spread holiday cheer and goodwill to remote First Nations’ communities in Canada.

The school’s annual Christmas concert will take place on Monday, December 17th at 6:30 pm. The event will include student performances, a Silent Auction, Bake Sale and a local celebrity Cake Auction. Santa will make a special guest appearance. Everyone is welcome.

The week of December 17th will feature a variety of special days, including Holiday Hat Day, Christmas Sweater Day and Red & Green Day. The festivities will conclude on Friday, December 21st, with a Christmas sing along in the gym at 1:45 pm.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
Students at Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Student Parliament has organized a variety of activities throughout the month to collect food items and monetary donations.

On Wednesday, December 19th, students and staff will host a Christmas concert titled “Christmas at Nesbitt” at 9 am and 12 pm in the school gym. Parents/guardians are invited to attend.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Each year, students at Central Manitoulin Public School collect toys, toiletries, books, pencils and other gifts for Operation Christmas Child, which supports children in developing countries. Student volunteers sort items and pack them into shoe boxes. Students also organize a Halloween cakewalk to fundraise for the cost of delivery. Parent volunteers generously donate cakes and pay for the items in the boxes.

The community is invited to join staff and students for the annual island schools Christmas concert at Manitoulin Secondary School on Wednesday, December 12th at 7 pm.

A ‘swap rack’ of used winter clothing is set up at the school for those in need. Items will be collected until Wednesday, December 19th. Extras will be donated to Manitoulin Family Resources. Students and staff are also collecting non-perishable food items for the local food bank.

The school will host their annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 18th at 1:45 pm and Wednesday, December 19th at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Students in the Grade 3/4 class will visit local neighbours to sing festive carols on Friday, December 21st at 12 pm.

Charles C. McLean Public School
In the spirit of Christmas, students and staff at C.C. McLean Public School will collect non-perishable food items until Monday, December 17th in support of the Manitoulin Family Resources’ Christmas Basket campaign. Unwrapped toys and monetary donations are welcome.

Students will perform at the island schools holiday concert on Wednesday, December 12th at Manitoulin Secondary School.

Staff and volunteers will prepare a holiday feast of turkey and all the trimmings for students on Thursday, December 20th at 11:30 am.

C.R. Judd Public School
Students at C.R. Judd Public School will take part in a series of activities throughout the month of December including the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Proceeds will support the local Bread & Roses Food Bank.

A group of Grade 8 students painted holiday scenes on windows of the local M&R Grill on Tuesday, December 4th.

On Thursday, December 6th, students canvassed the Capreol community to collect food donations. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 posed for photos with Santa courtesy of the Capreol Northern Credit Union.

On Tuesday, December 18th at 1:45 pm, students will perform holiday favourites at the school’s Christmas concert. Admission is a non-perishable food item. Baked goods and handcrafted ornaments made by students will be available for purchase. Proceeds will support the food drive.

Students will take part in a Christmas sing along on Thursday, December 20th and Friday, December 21st at 9 am in the school gym. On Friday, the entire school community is invited to wear an ugly Christmas sweater.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
Staff and students at Chelmsford Valley District Composite School took part in the fifth annual Rainbow Kids Helping Kids Day on Thursday, December 6th in support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

The entire school community will come together for a Christmas feast on Wednesday, December 19th. Throughout the week of December 17th, students will enjoy a variety of festive activities to help them get into the holiday spirit.

Churchill Public School
Churchill Public School students marked the month of December with the annual Rainbow Kids Helping Kids Day on December 6th. Students, staff and parents canvassed local neighbourhoods to collect donations in support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Students will take part in a variety of activities, including dances, poster and decorating contests.

Staff and students will host a holiday concert with two performances on Wednesday, December 19th at 9:30 am and another at 1:15 pm. Admission is a non-perishable food item.

On Friday, December 21st, students are invited to wear pajamas and participate in a pancake breakfast hosted by Student Parliament.

Copper Cliff Public School
Students and staff at Copper Cliff Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive from Monday, December 3rd to Tuesday, December 18th.

Throughout December, the school’s Go Green Club will collect gently used or new scarves, hats and mitts for families in need. Collected items will be used to create a tree on display in the main foyer.

The Copper Cliff Crusher School Council will sell candy grams, and will sell grilled cheese sandwiches. All funds raised will support a local family for the holidays.

Staff and students invite families to the Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 18th at 6 pm. Guests will enjoy the school’s rendition of “The Voice.” Classes will audition for three judges, Santa, Rudolph and Frosty, with the hope that one judge will welcome them on their team. Non-perishable food items will be collected as admission. Baked goods will be available for purchase.

Students will enjoy the annual Christmas Dance on Thursday, December 20th in the gym.

The entire school community will take part in a Christmas sing along on Friday, December 21st from 12:15 pm to 12:55 pm in the gym. Students and staff are encouraged to wear festive bling.

Cyril Varney Public School
To kick off the season of giving, students and staff at Cyril Varney Public School will support two important community initiatives, the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive and the Fill-A-Crib for the Pregnancy Care Centre & Infant Food Bank.

On Friday, December 14th all students will have breakfast with Santa. Students are invited to dress for a holiday Spirit Day for a $1. Proceeds will support the Fill-A-Crib campaign.

The school will host a holiday concert on Tuesday, December 18th at 12:45 pm and again at 2:05 pm. Coffee and desserts will be served in the school’s MakerSpace for families staying for both concerts.

On Wednesday, December 19th, the school’s Eco Club will host “Turn the Heat Down and Wear a Christmas Sweater Day.” Hot chocolate will be sold. All proceeds will support the school’s flower garden.

On Wednesday, December 12th, the school will host a Christmas concert titled “Le concert d’hiver” at 11:30 am and again at 5:30 pm in the gym. Parents/guardians are invited.

Espanola High School
Espanola High school will host a Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30 pm in the gym. The Senior and Junior Jazz Bands and the Senior Jazz Combo will perform. Admission is a silver donation to the band, or food for the local food bank. There will be a bake sale at intermision. Everyone is welcome.

On Wednesday, December 12th and Thursday, December 13th, Kindergarten students from A.B. Ellis Public School will decorate Christmas cookies with students in the period one Hospitality class.

Jean Hanson Public School
Throughout December, students will make ornaments to decorate the Christmas tree in the lobby.

A holiday sing along will take place in the school gym on Wednesday, December 12th.

Staff and students will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive until December 16th.

Lansdowne Public School
In December, students and staff will collect food items to support the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

The school, with Cambrian College and community partners, will host a family Christmas dinner complete with turkey and all the trimmings on Tuesday, December 11th at 5:30 pm in the school gym. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at 6 pm.

Lansdowne students will enjoy the “Twelve Days of Christmas” with an enjoyable event scheduled each day including sing alongs, ornament making, and a decorate your teacher event.

The school will host a holiday concert on Wednesday, December 19th at 12 pm.

Lasalle Secondary School
Lasalle Secondary School will celebrate the holiday season with Student Council leading the way with “Twelve Days of Lancer Christmas”. From Monday, December 3rd to Friday, December 21st, students will engage in activities such as Ornament Day and Wrap-a-Festive-Hat Day.

The entire school community, led by the Athletic Council, will collect items for the Pregnancy Care Centre and Infant Food Bank’s Fill-A-Crib campaign.

On Thursday, December 13th at 7 pm, the community is invited to Winter MADness, a showcase of student talent in the music, drama, vocal and visual art programs.

On Wednesday, December 19th, the Senior Boys’ Basketball team will play a team from the City of Greater Sudbury Police Services. To attend, students must make a donation. All proceeds will support the Fill-A-Crib campaign.

Levack Public School
Levack students will collect non-perishable food items until Friday, December 14th.

The Levack Christmas Choir performed at the 42rd Annual CarolFest at St. John’s United Church on December 9th.

On Tuesday, December 18th at 6 pm, the school will host a Christmas concert in the gym. Guests will enjoy performances from the Levack School Choir and Rock Band, the Onaping Falls Commmunity Choir and more. Baked goods will be for sale and a penny table will be set up. Admission is a non-perishable food item. Everyone is welcome.

On Thursday, December 20th, students will enjoy a special pancake breakfast with Santa.

Little Current Public School
The Little Current Public School Choir will perform at the Manitoulin Secondary School Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 12th at 7 pm.

Students and staff will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. All food collected will be donated to the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank. Students and staff will also collect new or gently used mittens and hats to donate to local organizations.

A “Kids Only Christmas Shopping Extravaganza” will take place on Wednesday, December 12th. Students will have the opportunity to purchase items for their family and friends. All items have been donated and will cost $3 or less. All proceeds from this event will be donated to a local charity.

The Little Current Public School Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at 9 am and 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.

On Friday, December 21st at 9 am, the entire school will gather in the gym for a holiday sing along. Everyone is welcome.

Lively District Secondary School
In the spirit of the holidays, staff and students at Lively District Secondary School will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Grade 7 and 8 students canvassed the local community on Thursday, December 6th.

Student Council served hot chocolate at the Annual Anderson Farm Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 8th.

Students will gather for a Pep Rally on Wednesday, December 12th. The Lively Hawks will also host a basketball game versus the Greater Sudbury Police Service. Students will have an opportunity to make a donation to the food drive.

The school’s annual Christmas concert will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at 7 pm. Students from Walden Public School will enjoy a second performance on Thursday, December 20th.

MacLeod Public School
Throughout December, MacLeod Public School students will take part in a variety of activities to raise funds and collect food for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive, including movie day, hat day, a floor hockey tournament, bake sales, and an evening family tailgate party.

The school will host a holiday concert on Tuesday, December 18th at 9:15 am and 11:45 am. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 will perform. Residents from Autumnwood Retirement Residence will attend. Students in Grades 4 to 6 will decorate gingerbread houses.

On Thursday, December 20th and Friday, December 21st at 9 am, students and staff will gather for a sing along in the gym. MacLeod alumni will perform.

Manitoulin Secondary School
The island schools Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 12th at 7 pm. Island elementary schools will join Manitoulin Secondary School musicians to deliver a wonderful evening filled with Christmas cheer to the entire community. Admission proceeds will support various school groups.

Student Parliament has organized a special event for each of the 12 days leading up to Christmas, including a Winter Formal Dance on Friday, December 14th.

Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School will celebrate the holiday season with an evening concert on Wednesday, December 19th at 6:30 pm. The evening will kick-off with a bake sale at 6 pm. Families unable to attend the evening performance are invited to the dress rehearsal at 11:35 am. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Thursday, December 20th.

Monetville Public School
Students and staff kicked-off the season of giving with the annual French River Lions Club Canned Food Drive. Collections will take place until Tuesday, December 18th in support of the Christmas Basket Program.

On Tuesday, December 11th, students from Grades 2 to 6 will spread holiday cheer at the Noelville Seniors Residence with a Christmas sing along. Students will deliver homemade cards and ornaments, and will chat over cookies and hot chocolate.

On Friday, December 14th, students will enjoy a pancake breakfast with Santa.

The school will host its winter concert on Tuesday, December 18th at 1 pm. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will perform, including Ojibwe classes. Grade 8 students will host a bake sale at 12:30 pm. Admission of a non-perishable food item would be greatly appreciated.

Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 19th at 9 am in the gym. The theme will be “The Magic of Christmas” inspired by school kindness projects, the poem “The Magic of Christmas” by Tom Krause, and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss. The concert will focus on the true spirit of Christmas, which can’t be bought or wrapped up in a box; it comes from the inside, as we share goodwill with those around us.

Princess Anne Public School
This holiday season, Princess Anne Public School will participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. A variety of events will take place to collect donations.

On Tuesday, December 18th, students and staff will host a Christmas concert at 6 pm in the gym. The dress rehearsal will take place at 11 am for any parents/guardians who cannot attend the evening concert.

Staff and students will enjoy a Holiday Feast on Wednesday, December 19th.

Intermediate students will join Sudbury Secondary School for a holiday feast on Thursday, December 20th.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 19th at 11:45 am.

With the help of many community partners, staff and volunteers, students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 will enjoy a Christmas feast on Thursday, December 20th.

R.H. Murray Public School
The Snowflake Choir performed at the Beaver Lake Community Dinner on Tuesday, December 4th.

Staff and students at R.H. Murray Public School kicked off the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Thursday, December 6th. Students will take part in various festive events to support the drive.

The R.H. Murray Snowflake Choir performed at the opening ceremonies of the Anderson Farm Tree Lighting in Walden on Saturday, December 8th.

On Wednesday, December 12th at 11 am, members of the Snowflake Choir will visit residents at Extendicare York. Students will deliver handmade Christmas cards, perform Christmas songs, and participate in a sing along.

Members of the school community will welcome students, staff and community partners to a festive luncheon on Tuesday, December 18th at 11:30 am.

Staff and students will wrap-up the season with an outdoor Christmas event on Wednesday, December 19th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The evening will feature horse drawn wagon rides, cookies and hot chocolate, performances, and the school’s annual draw for two tickets to anywhere WestJet flies. All members of the public are welcome to attend this true north event.

Students will take part in Christmas caroling on Thursday, December 20th at 9:30 am.

R.L. Beattie Public School
The RL. Beattie Choir performed at the Lions Club Telethon on Saturday, December 1st.

From Monday, December 3rd to Friday, December 14th, students will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. On Thursday, December 6th, R.L. Beattie Public School and MacLeod Public School joined together for a tailgate party during the Rainbow Kids Helping Kids community canvas.

The Beattie Choir performed holiday favourites at the Kivi Park Christmas Tree Lighting Festival on December 8th.

The school’s holiday concert “Toys on Parade” will take place on Wednesday, December 12th with performances at 9:30 am, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Donations to the Sudbury Food Bank are encouraged.

The Beattie Choir Minitones and Grade 1 students will spread holiday cheer at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre and the Lockerby Legion on Friday, December 14th.

The Beattie holiday sing along will take place on Friday, December 21st in the school gym.

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres will host several holiday events during the month of December in support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive, including Candy Cane O’Gram sales.

On Tuesday, December 11th, students will enjoy a holiday feast complete with turkey and all the fixings.

On Wednesday, December 19th and Thursday, December 20th, the school will host their annual Christmas concert at 11:30 am. S. Geiger Public School
Students from S. Geiger Public School are thrilled to present a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 19th at 1 pm for families and members of the local community. Baked goods will be available for purchase. All funds will support the 2018-2019 Intermediate year-end trip. Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School, Adult Day School, the N’Swakamok Native Alternative School as well as Grade 7 and 8 students from Princess Anne Public School and Lansdowne Public School will celebrate the festive season with a holiday feast on Thursday, December 20th. The feast, including a turkey dinner with all the fixings, will be prepared by staff and served by community leaders.

Westmount Public School
The Westmount Wizards will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday December 19th at 9:30 am and again at 1:15 pm. Guests will enjoy performances from students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 en français.
