Festive Events in Rainbow Schools

Alexander Public School
Alexander Public School will host their annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 2 pm and Wednesday, December 21st at 11:45 am in the school gym. This year’s theme is “Partage la paix/Share the Peace”. During the concert, School Council members will hold a raffle.

Algonquin Road Public School
Family and friends are invited to Algonquin Road Public School’s holiday concert on Monday, December 19th at 12 pm in the school gym. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 will perform. Non-perishable food items will be collected as admission. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Tuesday, December 20th at 12 pm. Students in Grades 6 to 8 will host a potluck lunch on Thursday, December 22nd, at 12 pm for parents/guardians and families.

Assiginack Public School
The entire Assiginack Public School community will collect unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Donations will be accepted until Monday, December 19th, as a part of Manitoulin Island’s ‘Stuff-a-Bus’ campaign for the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank.

On Tuesday, December 6th, students in Grades 5 to 8 travelled to the Sudbury Theatre Centre for a special presentation of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. The Kinsmen Club of Sudbury made this possible for students.

All students and staff enjoyed a performance from the Manitoulin Secondary School Band on Tuesday, December 13th at 10 am. Community members were welcome.

During the week of Monday, December 19th, intermediate students will work with junior students to design community Christmas ornaments generously donated by The Township of Assiginack.

To embrace the holiday spirit, students will present a festive Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:30 pm in the school gym. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Students and staff will enjoy a pancake breakfast in their pajamas on Friday, December 23rd. At noon, community members will join staff and students to decorate the community Christmas tree with ornaments created by students. At 1:45 pm, a Christmas carol sing-along will take place in the school gym.

Carl. A. Nesbitt Public School
This holiday season, Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. To kick-off a month of giving, the school hosted a school-wide pancake breakfast on Thursday, December 1st in honour of Edgar Burton and members of the Sudbury Food Bank. Mayor Brian Bigger and staff from 92.7 Rock were on hand to make and serve pancakes. That evening, along with Ernie Checkeris Public School and Churchill Public School, students and staff took part in a community canvass followed by a chili and hot chocolate tailgate party. The Student Parliament has a variety of activities planned throughout the month to collect non-perishables and monetary donations for the campaign.

Staff and students will host a Christmas Spaghetti Feast on Wednesday, December 14th. The first seating will take place at 11 am and the second at 12:30 pm. On Thursday, December 22nd, students and staff will host a Christmas concert in the school gym at 9 am and 12 pm. Parents/guardians are invited to attend.

Central Manitoulin Public School
The community joined staff and students for a special Island holiday concert at Manitoulin Secondary School on Tuesday, December 6th.

Students and staff at Central Manitoulin Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the local food bank from Monday, December 12th to Friday, December 16th. The school will also participate in the “Stuff-A-Bus” event to collect food items, and new unwrapped toys for Manitoulin Family Resources.

On Tuesday, December 13th, students in Grades 5 to 7 will travel to the Sudbury Theatre Centre to watch a performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The Kinsmen Club of Sudbury made this special day possible.

Charles C. McLean Public School
In the spirit of Christmas, students and staff at C.C. McLean Public School will collect non-perishable food items until Friday, December 16th in support of the Manitoulin Family Resources’ Christmas Basket campaign. Monetary and unwrapped toy donations are welcome.

On Tuesday, December 13th, students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 will travel to the Sudbury Theatre Centre for a performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The Kinsmen Club of Sudbury made this special day possible.

The community joined C.C. McLean’s Grade 2/3 class for a special Island holiday concert at Manitoulin Secondary School on Tuesday, December 6th. The MSS Concert Band, Vocal Group, and various ensembles from Island elementary schools performed.

The community is invited to join staff and students on Friday, December 23rd for a Christmas sing-along at 9 am in the school gym.

Chelmsford Public School
Staff and students at Chelmsford Public School kicked off the festive season with the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive community canvass on Thursday, December 1st. The school also hosted a pasta lunch for staff and students to support the school’s food bank.

In partnership with the Rayside Balfour Community Team, the school hosted a pancake breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3rd.

The school choir performed at the CTV-Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon on Saturday, December 3rd. The Choir also performed both the Canadian and American National Anthems at the Sudbury Wolves game on Friday, December 9th.

Students and staff will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 14th at 9 am and 11:30 am. Everyone is welcome.

The annual Christmas Feast will take place on Tuesday, December 20th at 12 pm. All students and special guests will enjoy a hot turkey dinner prepared by students and volunteers.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
In the spirit of the holiday season, students and staff at CVDCS participated in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive from Tuesday, November 29th to Friday, December 2nd. Students canvassed the community and collected non-perishable food items and donations for the local food bank.

On Wednesday, December 21st, staff and School Council members will prepare the third annual Winter Feast. Students will enjoy a turkey lunch with all the trimmings. The cafeteria will be decorated and Christmas music will create a festive setting.

Churchill Public School
Students and staff are taking part in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Churchill’s goal is to retain their title as the top collector in the city. On Friday, December 16th, students will build food pyramids in the gym with non-perishable food items.

Students will share the holiday spirit by participating in caroling in the gym each morning starting Monday, December 19th.

The public is welcome to attend Churchill Public School’s “Santa’s Workshop” holiday concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 11:30 am and 6 pm in the school gym. The concert will feature singing, dancing and skits.

Copper Cliff Public School
From December 1st to December 20th, students and staff at Copper Cliff Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

The school will host their annual Christmas Dance for Grades 6 to 8 students on Wednesday, December 14th at 6 pm in the school gym.

Cyril Varney Public School
Cyril Varney will host a holiday concert “Let it Snow” on Thursday, December 15th at 1:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

Throughout the month of December, the school will partner with the Pregnancy Care Centre & Infant Food Bank, collecting items in support of the “Fill A Crib” Campaign. Students and staff will also collect non-perishable food items in support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
This holiday season, Ernie Checkeris Public School will participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. To help kick-off the month of giving, the school hosted a pancake breakfast in honour of Edgar Burton and members of the Sudbury Food Bank.

The school joined Carl A. Nesbitt Public School and Churchill Public School for a community canvass followed by a chili and hot chocolate tailgate party at Churchill Public School. Lansdowne Public School
Lansdowne Public School will host a holiday concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 12:30 pm and 2 pm. All families are welcome.

Lansdowne Public School, in partnership with the Donovan Best Start Hub, will host a family Christmas dinner, complete with turkey and all the trimmings on Thursday, December 8th at 5 pm in the school gym. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at 6 pm.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School staff, students and parents/guardians collected non-perishable food items at Chris’ Valu-Mart in Dowling on Thursday, December 1st. Chili, soup and buns were served at the school in exchange for non-perishable food items and cash donations. Staff and students will collect donations to support the Onaping Falls Food Bank and the Sudbury Food Bank until Friday, December 16th.

On Sunday, December 4th, staff and students hosted the 24th Annual Christmas Tea. Guests enjoyed refreshments, games, a penny table, raffle prizes and much more.

Piano students will showcase their talent in a special concert held on Wednesday, December 14th at 9:20 am. Everyone is welcome.

Kindergarten to Grade 8 students will participate in a Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 12:30 pm, Wednesday, December 21st at 12:30 pm and again at 6 pm. Performances will showcase talent from each classroom, the Larchwood Slivers and a special French performance. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items as admission. Everyone is welcome.

Students will enjoy a hot turkey lunch during Larchwood Public School’s Second Annual Christmas Feast on Thursday, December 22nd at 11:30 am.

Levack Public School
On Wednesday, November 30th, students from Levack Public School visited the Holiday Train in Cartier.

On Thursday, December 8th, French Immersion students in Grades 1 to 8 attended a concert by Chuck Labelle at Theatre Cambrian.

In support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive, Levack Public School will collect cans until Friday, December 9th. Incentives were given to students to reach their goal of more than 1,000 food items.

On Sunday, December 11th at 7 pm, the Levack Rock Band and Choir will perform at the St. John’s 41st Annual Carol Fest.

On Wednesday, December 14th at 11:15 am, Grades 5 and 6 students will attend a performance of “It’s A Wonderful Life” at the Sudbury Theatre Centre.

On Thursday, December 15th at 7 pm, the school will host a Christmas concert in the school gym. Performances will include the Levack Rock Band, the Onaping Falls Community Choir and special guests, Sarah Craig and the Welcome Matt. A bake sale and penny table will take place. On Friday, December 16th at 11:15 am, primary students will attend a matinée of “Elf Jr. The Musical” at Sudbury Secondary School.

Little Current Public School
The Manitoulin Secondary School Band will spread Christmas cheer with a special holiday concert for Little Current Public School on Tuesday, December 13th at 1:30 pm in the school gym.

The Little Current Public School Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 22nd at 9 am and 6 pm. This year’s theme is “Christmas in Canada at 150.”

On Friday, December 23rd at 9 am, the entire school will gather in the gym for a Christmas sing-along.

Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School will host their annual winter concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 11:45 am. Non-perishable food items will gladly be accepted as admission in support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

Monetville Public School
Students at Monetville Public School will participate in the annual French River Lions Club Canned Food Drive until Friday, December 16th.

On, Friday, December 2nd, students, staff and Dokis First Nation School enjoyed a pancake breakfast and a special visit from Santa.

The public is welcome to attend the Monetville Public School winter concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 1:35 pm. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will perform a variety of festive songs. A slideshow will showcase how school families celebrate the holidays. The school’s Student Council will also host a Christmas bake sale.

Pinecrest Public School
Christmas is a special time for the Pinecrest community. The school’s Glee Club and Concert Band will perform at the Elizabeth Centre and the Hanmer Mall. ISP students and members of Student Parliament canvassed local neighbourhoods on Thursday, December 1st to collect food items for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

The public is invited to attend the school’s annual Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 6 pm. Guests will enjoy songs and skits from all classes and clubs. Grade 7 students will present a film.

Princess Anne Public School
This holiday season, Princess Anne Public School will participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. A variety of events will take place in an effort to collect food items, including the community food drive that took place on Thursday, December 1st.
Students will pack Christmas Trees at Dumas’ Your Independent Grocer on Saturday, December 10th and Sunday, December 11th from 12 pm to 4 pm. All donations will support the food drive.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School hosted their annual “Christmas Bazaar” on Friday, December 2nd. Activities included Plinko, face painting, candy cane pulls and a penny table.

Students will enjoy a delicious breakfast of pancakes and assorted fruit during “Breakfast with Santa” on Friday, December 16th.

Staff and students will host a Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 1:45 pm. Non-perishable food items to support the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive will be greatly appreciated.

Students will enjoy a Holiday Feast with all the fixings on Thursday, December 22nd.

Redwood Acres Public School
A day of arts and crafts was held in “Santa’s Workshop” on Friday, December 2nd. Students painted salt dough ornaments for the Christmas tree. Other crafts were made to sell at the Christmas concert.

On Thursday, December 8th, students and families were invited to a screening of the film “Polar Express.” On Friday, December 9th, students created a sculpture using non-perishable food items.

On Wednesday, December 14th and Thursday, December 15th, the school will host its Christmas concert at 11:30 am.

The Food Drive Student Dance will take place on Friday, December 16th. Admission is one canned food item or $1.

The whole school will attend Sudbury Secondary School’s production of “Elf Jr. The Musical” on Tuesday, December 20th.

Staff and students at R.H. Murray Public School kicked off their Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Tuesday, December 6th. Throughout the month, students will take part in a series of festive events to support the drive, including a student versus teacher volleyball game and other Christmas activities.

On Wednesday, December 7th, the R.H. Murray Snowflake Choir performed their holiday repertoire at the Meadowbrook Retirement Village. Kindergarten students visited with and delivered homemade cards to residents. The Snowflake Choir performed at the Beaver Lake Luncheon.

On Saturday, December 10th at 6 pm, the Snowflake Choir will perform at the Anderson Farm Tree Lighting in Walden.

Members of the school community will welcome students, staff and community partners to a festive luncheon on Monday, December 12th at 11:30 am. Students are invited to take part in Christmas caroling on Monday, December 19th at 9:30 am.

Staff and students will wrap-up the season with an outdoor Christmas event from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, December 21st. This evening will include refreshments, raffles and a few surprises. All members of the public are welcome to attend this true north event.

R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School will participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive until Thursday, December 15th.

The school will host a Holiday concert themed “Under the Shining Star” on Thursday, December 15th at 9:30 am, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. The community is invited to attend.

The school will take part in the Pregnancy Care Centre & Infant Food Bank’s “Fill A Crib” campaign. Christmas cards will also be sold to support local food banks.

S. Geiger Public School
Members of the Massey community are invited to a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 22nd. Baked goods will be available for purchase.

Valley View Public School
Valley View Public School jump-started the holiday season with their Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Wednesday, December 1st.

As of Monday, December 12th, students are invited to send holiday cheer to a classmate, a sibling or a Valley View friend. Candy canes can be purchased for 5 cents.

The school will present its annual holiday concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 9:30 am and 11:30 am. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will perform. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend.

Staff and students will participate in a red and green Spirit Day on Thursday, December 22nd.

Walden Public School
The Walden Public School choir will entertain guests at the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Anderson Farm on Saturday, December 10th. Students will also perform for residents at Chartwell Meadowbrook Retirement Village.

The school is participating in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Students are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items in support of local food banks.

The Westmount Wizards will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 11:15 am and 1:30 pm. Guests will enjoy performances from students in Kindergarten to Grade 2, en Français.

Webbwood Public School
The entire Webbwood community is invited for carol singing and hot chocolate on Thursday, December 22nd. Baked goods will be available for purchase.

Barrydowne College
Barrydowne College will host a special lunch for students, staff and community partners on Wednesday, December 14th at 11:30 am. Festivities will begin with ceremonial drumming and a blessing of the food. Students will receive a special gift from the local partners that support the students at Barrydowne College.

Lasalle Secondary School
Students and staff kicked off the festive season with Winter MADness on Monday, December 12th at 7 pm in the school gym. The evening featured a variety of festive performances from the Senior and Junior Jazz Ensembles, the Intermediate and Senior Concert Bands, the Guitar Ensemble and special guests, The Nickel City Wind Ensemble and the Lasalle Dance Ensemble.

Lasalle’s Athletic Council (LAC) will participate in the Pregnancy Care Centre & Infant Food Bank’s “Fill A Crib” campaign. Staff, students and members of the school community are welcome to support this initiative. On Wednesday, December 21st, the school will host a basketball game between the senior boys’ team and the Greater Sudbury Police. All proceeds from this game will go towards the “Fill A Crib” campaign.

The “Me to We” Club will fundraise throughout the holiday season by selling friendship bracelets. The funds raised will benefit school building efforts in India.

Lively District Secondary School
In the spirit of the holidays, students and staff at Lively District Secondary School will collect non-perishable food items for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

The High School Rock Band performed at the Anderson Farm Annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 10th .

The Grade 7 and 8 Bands and Rock Bands will perform for parents, friends and community members at the annual Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 at 7 pm. Students from Walden Public School are invited to a daytime concert on Thursday, Dec. 22nd. Students and staff will take part in a seasonal celebration on Thursday, December 22nd.

Lockerby Composite School
In the spirit of the holidays, Lockerby Composite School invites all members of the community to attend their annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 14th at 7 pm in the McKellar auditorium. The concert will include performances from the Concert Band, the Junior Music class, the Guitar Ensemble, and a very special mystery guest.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
The Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School Festive Holiday Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 20th at 7 pm. As admission, donations for the school’s Music Program would be greatly appreciated.

Manitoulin Secondary School
The annual Island Schools Christmas Concert took place on Tuesday, December 6th. Island elementary schools joined Manitoulin Secondary School musicians to deliver a wonderful evening filled with Christmas cheer to the entire community. Admission proceeds support all school groups.

Staff and students will host the 47th Annual Awards Night on Thursday, December 22nd at 7:30 pm. Graduates will receive over $49,000 in monetary awards donated generously by the school community. The public is welcome.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School presents Elf Jr. The Musical on Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th at 7 pm in the Sheridan Auditorium. A special matinee performance will take place on Sunday, December 18th at 2 pm.

Sudbury Secondary School, Adult Day School and the N’Swakamok Alternative Education Program will celebrate the festive season with a holiday feast on Thursday, December 22nd. The feast will be prepared by staff and served by community leaders.

On Friday, December 23rd, the school will host its annual Christmas assembly.
