Representatives of the RHP Training Centre were at Lasalle Secondary School on Monday, September 18, 2017 to sign a partnership agreement that will benefit student athletes in two experiential learning programs – SHSM Sports and SHAL.

Specialist High Skills Major Sports (SHSM Sports) enables students to build a foundation of sector-focused knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace.

The Sport and Healthy Active Living Program (SHAL) maximizes human potential in sport, fitness and academics. The program appeals to students with a keen interest in pursuing their participation in, and understanding of sports, competition, health and business.

RHP Training Centre is a state-of-the-art development and teaching facility for athletes from young to old and beginners to professionals. Their programs, equipment and athletic testing challenge athletes in a positive and supportive environment.

RHP features a 22,000 square foot training facility with a real ice surface almost three-quarters the size of an NHL rink as well as an 8,000 square foot dry land area which includes a Woodway “Blade” Skating Treadmill. The facility also includes a complete strength training area, a cardiovascular training area, a functional and dynamic training area with athletic sport turf, as well as hockey specific shooting and stickhandling skills stations.

“Lasalle Secondary School is proud to work with the staff at RHP to develop our students’ abilities to their fullest potential while nurturing a healthy and active living lifestyle,” said Principal Maureen McNamara. “We are pleased that students will have access to leading edge programs and professionals in the community to further their athletic training.”

“By providing top-notch instruction and access to high-level research, RHP will give Lasalle teams the tools to evolve athletically,” said Troy Beauregard of RHP Training Centre. “We are excited to build a long standing relationship with Lasalle Secondary School and inspire lifelong fitness in students.”

The partnership will benefit Grade 11 and 12 students in the Specialist High Skills Major Sports, Grade 9 and 10 students in the Sport and Healthy Active Living Program, as well as Hockey and Fitness classes at Lasalle Secondary School.

Students will enjoy monthly visits to the RHP Training Centre. Professionals from RHP will visit the school monthly to teach proper movement in multiple sports and activities. The students will participate in fitness testing throughout the program. They will also complete a culminating task.
