March 5: Students participate in Rainbow District School Board Science Fair
Purify the Planet and Flame Terminator are two of the projects that will be explored at the Rainbow District School Board Elementary Science Fair on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Approximately 28 projects from students in Grade 7 and 8 will be featured at the fair, which takes place at Lockerby Composite School in Sudbury. Thirteen projects from secondary students advancing to the Sudbury Regional Science Fair will also be on display.
The public is welcome to view the projects in the Lockerby gym from 12 pm to 1 pm.
The awards ceremony will take place in the auditorium at 1:30 pm.
Judges and community professionals with a science and/or engineering background will select 15 elementary projects to compete at the Sudbury Regional Science Fair at Laurentian University’s Cliff Fielding Engineering Building on April 6 and 7, 2024.
“Students are researching specific areas of science related to curriculum expectations – from technology to earth sciences to the environment,” said Cathy Norrie, Rainbow District School Board Science Fair Chair. “Through the Science Fair, students are capitalizing on their innate curiosity to investigate and discover.”
She added: “By asking real questions, students become immersed in authentic learning that enhances their scientific knowledge and furthers their interest in science related careers.”
The Elementary Science Fair is the first step in the journey to the nationals. Sudbury Regional Science Fair projects will be selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Ottawa in May.
