November 15: Decision on accommodation of students in Sudbury South

Rainbow District School Board’s Administrative Council will present its final report on the accommodation of students in Sudbury South area schools at the regular meeting of the Board on Monday, November 15th, 2010. Trustees are expected to vote on the recommendations. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium at Lockerby Composite School.

This will bring to a close a year-long accommodation review on the following schools – Alexander Public School, Algonquin Road Public School, Long Lake Public School, MacLeod Public School, Monetville Public School, R.L. Beattie Public School, Wanup Public School, Lockerby Composite School and Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School.

The Accommodation Review Committee report for Sudbury South and the Administrative Council report for Sudbury South were presented to the Board of Trustees during the regular meeting on Monday, September 20, 2010. Both reports are available on the Board’s website – rainbowschools.ca.

Members of the public who requested an opportunity to provide input to trustees made their presentations during the regular meeting on Monday, October 18th, 2010. These presentations are also available on the Board’s website.

A number of factors were considered as part of the review process, including the range of program offerings for students, the learning environment at the school, and the proximity of the school to students. Other factors, such as enrolment, operating costs, and capital needs, were also considered, within the following guiding principles – to ensure that all students continue to have access to the best programming possible in quality school facilities, to reduce surplus space, and to ensure the sustainability of existing programs and services for all students of the Board.
