October 26: Professional learning focuses on equity and inclusion

Gender and Sexuality 101, Why Poverty?, Social Justice Begins with Me, Re-thinking White Privilege, Equity Across the Curriculum, Creating the Mentally Healthy Classroom, Busting Myths and Misconceptions about Indigenous Peoples, Safer Schools: A Guide to Supporting Trans Students, Racial Justice, Compassion Fatigue Awareness, From Advocacy to Activism: A Blueprint for Equity.

These are some of the topics that teachers in Rainbow Schools will explore during professional learning on Friday, October 26, 2018. Presented in partnership with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF), the entire day will focus on Equity and Inclusion.

“We would like to thank ETFO and OSSTF members for sharing their expertise and experience with us by offering a number of workshops for the benefit of our educators,” says Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Norm Blaseg.

He adds: “We also extend our gratitude to presenters from the community and beyond who are engaging our staff in discussions and reflections that will help us create safer spaces where all students can thrive and reach their full potential.”

Equity and inclusive education continues to be an important focus for Rainbow District School Board. “We are building our understanding and expanding our circle of care through presentations for staff, conferences for students, and supports for schools as we nurture welcoming and accepting environments for teaching and learning,” says Director Blaseg.

Workshops will take place at Lockerby Composite School (elementary teachers) and Sudbury Secondary School (secondary teachers) with video conferencing to Espanola and Manitoulin Island.
