Rainbow District School Board Chair Dena Morrison welcomes student trustee Andrew Pawluch of Lockerby Composite School to the Board for the 2006-2007 school year.

Student trustees bring a unique perspective to the table and we welcome their input, said Chair Morrison. Their hands-on involvement on the Board gives them an inside look at democracy in action. We believe that we have a responsibility to develop our future leaders. Student trustees help us to achieve this important objective.

Andrew Pawluch, a Grade 11 student in the Science Technology Education Program (STEP) at Lockerby Composite School, is President of the Student Council and served as Captain of the junior Reach for the Top team last year. A talented musician, Pawluch is a member of Lockerby’s Senior Concert Band and Brass Quintet. He is also on the school’s Music Council, which provides leadership on music related initiatives. Pawluch is first Vice-President of the Ontario Student Trustees Association (OSTA).

Pawluch says he has always had a keen interest in politics and governance issues. He adds: I also have a passion for education. I welcome the opportunity to expand my knowledge of important issues and to make a meaningful contribution to initiatives that will benefit students.

Swearing in ceremony: Rainbow District School Board Director of Educaton Jean Hanson welcomes Nadiyka Pyzik of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School to the Board as a student trustee for the 2006-2007 school year.

She is a past member of the Senior Concert Band at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary
School.

Pyzik is delighted to join the Board as a student trustee. I look forward to gaining hands-on experience on how the Board operates and providing input from a student’s perspective, she says. It will be interesting to be involved in education on a broader community level.
