Rainbow Schools take part in Waste Reduction Week
As part of Rainbow District School Board’s monthly environmental initiatives, Rainbow Schools will participate in Waste Reduction Week from October 16 to 20, 2017.
Waste Reduction Week is a national environmental campaign that builds awareness around issues of sustainable and responsible consumption, encourages choice of more environmentally responsible products/services, and promotes actions that divert waste from disposal, while conserving natural resources.
Throughout the week, staff and students will take part in a series of challenges and events including Wear Blue Monday, Clothing Drive Tuesday, Waste Audit Wednesday, No Plastics Thursday and Litterless Lunch Friday.
“This week-long challenge is a fun learning opportunity for everyone to think about, and take responsibility for, their individual carbon footprint,” says Director of Education Norm Blaseg.
He adds: “We want students to make the connection between production, consumption, waste, and the environmental consequences associated with choice.”
The Environmental Committee issues monthly challenges to staff and students in Rainbow Schools.
Last month, students became #OzoneHeroes for World Ozone Day.
What will next month’s challenge be?
