Rainbow District School Board welcomes Student Trustee for 2017-2018

Madeleine Leach Jarrett, a Grade 12 student at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, will serve as Student Trustee on the Rainbow District School Board for the 2017-2018 school year. She was sworn in at the Board meeting on August 29, 2017. Director of Education Norm Blaseg administered the Oath of Allegiance.

Madeleine Leach Jarrett, a Grade 12 student at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, will serve as Student Trustee on the Rainbow District School Board for the 2017-2018 school year. She was sworn in at the Board meeting on August 29, 2017.

“Rainbow District School Board values student voice,” says Chair Doreen Dewar. “Madeleine Leach Jarrett will bring this important perspective to the table as a Student Trustee. She will also have an opportunity to gain a first-hand look at the role of elected officials in a democratic society as well as develop leadership skills that will last a lifetime.”

A student in the International Baccalaureate Program, Madeleine Leach Jarrett has been very active in her school and community. She was President of the Student Council at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School in the 2016-2017 school year. She was also a member of the Environmental Council, the Tennis Team, Junior Basketball and Rock Climbing Club. Beyond school, she volunteers weekly at Health Sciences North.

Madeleine Leach Jarrett looks forward to representing the student voice in her role as Student Trustee. “I’m extremely excited to bring the diverse ideas and values of our students to the board table,” she said. “I welcome the opportunity to contribute to the decision-making process.”

In her role as Student Trustee, Madeleine Leach Jarrett will also represent Rainbow District School Board at the provincial level as a member of the Ontario Student Trustees’ Association (OSTA).

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

There will be no early dismissal on the first day.
