Rainbow District School Board welcomes Student Trustee for 2018-2019

Student Trustee and Director Blaseg

Hannah Golden, a Grade 12 student at Sudbury Secondary School, will serve as Student Trustee on the Rainbow District School Board for the 2018-2019 school year. She was sworn in at the Board meeting on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

“Rainbow District School Board values student voice,” says Chair Doreen Dewar. “Hannah Golden will bring this important perspective to the table as a Student Trustee. She will also have an opportunity to gain a first-hand look at the role of elected officials in a democratic society as well as develop leadership skills.”

Hannah Golden is Co-Premier of the Student Parliament at Sudbury Secondary School, where she will be running for Prime Minister this fall. She is also a member of the Athletic Council, Performing Dance Troupe, Volleyball and Badminton Teams, and Senior Reach for the Top Team. She has been a volunteer with the Onaping Falls Recreation Committee for the past six years.

“I am honoured to have been elected to represent students at the Rainbow Board table,” said Hannah Golden. “Student voice is important because it allows students to share who they are and what they believe in with their peers, parents, teachers and their school. Every student in every school has a voice that needs to be heard.”

During her term as Student Trustee, Hannah Golden will continue the focus on mental health and wellbeing. “I want to ensure students are aware of the resources they have inside and outside school and give them even more opportunities to be heard.”

In her role as Student Trustee, Hannah Golden will also represent Rainbow District School Board at the provincial level as a member of the Ontario Student Trustees’ Association (OSTA).

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

There will be no early dismissal on the first day.
