Clothing Drive: Rainbow Schools make winter a little warmer

Rainbow Schools are once again helping to make the coldest season a little warmer by participating in the Winter Clothing Drive powered by Cooper Equipment Rentals.

Community members are invited to look for the Cooper truck at any of Greater Sudbury’s four Canadian Tire locations – New Sudbury, South End, Hanmer and Chelmsford – to drop off cleaned and bagged coats, scarves, mitts and hats from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, October 14th and 21st.

Clothing will be redistributed to members of the community in need from Monday, October 30th to Thursday, November 2nd from 10 am to 6 pm at the Southridge Mall – 1933 Regent Street in Sudbury.

Since the program’s inception, close to 100,000 clothing items have been provided to children and families. Rainbow Schools have contributed thousands of items to this incredible total.

Rainbow secondary students are volunteering to assist with the clothing drive. In the process, they are earning community involvement hours, which is a graduation requirement, gaining hands-on leadership skills, and most importantly, helping children and families in need of support.

“It’s wonderful to see the continued generosity of students, staff and members of the broader community,” says Copper Cliff Public School Principal James Norrie who is coordinating the Winter Clothing Drive on behalf of Rainbow Schools. “This initiative is a shining example of what a caring community is all about.”

He adds: “We are proud to join with Cooper Equipment Rentals, local partners and all donors to make winter a little warmer for those in need.”
