December 11: Sudbury Secondary School hosts Open House
Grade 8 students and their parents/guardians are invited to an Open House at Sudbury Secondary School on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 6 pm.
Students within the Sudbury Secondary School boundary are welcome, regardless of which school they currently attend. Busing to the Arts Education Program is offered to students from all schools within Sudbury and surrounding areas.
During the Open House, families can tour the state-of-the-art facility and meet staff who will be pleased to answer any questions. They can also take part in information sessions, as well as activities, performances and presentations that will highlight the exceptional learning opportunities offered to students.
“Our school is known for its arts education program which has a rich tradition of excellence,” says Principal Heather Downey. “Students enjoy a wonderful combination of arts, athletics and academics, making Sudbury Secondary School a great place to learn for all fields of study.”
In addition to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, Sudbury Secondary School students can graduate with an Arts Education Certificate, a French Immersion Certificate, and/or a provincially recognized Specialist High Skills Major in one of four sectors: Arts and Culture, Construction Technology, Health and Wellness, and Sustainable Living and Culinary Arts. Prospective students can explore program options at the Open House.
Arts Education includes specialized training in dance, theatre, instrumental music, vocal music, media studies and visual arts from educators who are specialists in their disciplines.
Sudbury Secondary School provides a modern and dynamic learning environment. The arts wing features the city’s best-equipped dance studio, drama studio/black box theatre, media lab with green screens, visual arts studios, Mac lab, photography classroom and darkroom, vocal and instrumental music rooms and practice rooms, and a spectacular 450-seat auditorium to showcase student talent.
