Board congratulates winners of the Technological Skills Competition
Rainbow District School Board held its 19th annual Technological Skills Competition on March 4, 2026. Most events took place at Cambrian College in Sudbury, while some competitions were scheduled over a series of weeks at various venues.
Some 165 secondary students tested their various skilled trades including 2D and 3D character animation, aesthetics, AutoCAD, auto service technology, baking, cabinetmaking, carpentry, coding, computer aided manufacturing, electrical installations, graphic design, hairstyling, home and team building, mechanical CAD, outdoor powered equipment, photography, tv/video production, VEX robotics and welding.
This year’s elementary competition saw approximately 340 students participating in seven categories – character animation, construction, LEGO® Mechanical Engineering, LEGO® Robotics, technology, tv/video production and workplace safety.
Students were vying for the opportunity to compete at the Skills Ontario Competition on May 4 and 5, 2026 in Toronto.
“Congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s Technological Skills Competition,” said Bruce Bourget, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. “We extend our best wishes to students moving on to regional and provincial competitions. Enjoy the opportunity to showcase your talent in the trades.”
“Our Technological Skills Competition was extremely successful,” said Jennifer Burns, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Co-ordinator with Rainbow District School Board. “In each event, students solved problems and displayed their creativity while exploring viable careers.”
Rainbow District School Board salutes the many staff members who worked diligently to make this event possible, and thanks Cambrian College and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 2486 for their continued support.
The Board also acknowledges the generosity of the many community partners who contributed financially to this event.
