Rainbow Schools celebrate Education Week 2026
Rainbow Schools will mark Education Week from May 4 to 8, 2026, which begins with Music Monday. “Education Week provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate teaching excellence, student achievement, parental involvement and exceptional community support in Rainbow Schools,” says Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “This year, we continue to focus on literacy and numeracy – the foundation for learning in all subject areas.”
A.B. Ellis Public School
On Music Monday, May 4th, A.B. Ellis Public School will showcase student talent and an appreciation for volunteers. Festivities will begin at 11:45 am in the gym. Staff will welcome families for Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, May 5th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. On Friday, May 8th, families are invited to visit their child’s classrooms for literacy, numeracy and STEM learning activities. Kindergarten classes will engage in literacy and numeracy games while the Grade 1/2 class will code BeeBots. The Grade 2 class will work on ScratchJr. coding and Grade 3 students will code with Dot robots. The Grade 4 class will work with LEGO Robotics and Scratch, while Grade 4/5 students will work on stop-motion projects. Grade 6 students will participate in a marshmallow structure challenge, while the 6/7 class will practise their oral communication debate skills. Students in Grade 7/8 will take part in WeVideo projects and a PEEL paragraph writing activity.
Adamsdale Public School
Education Week will kick off at Adamsdale Public School with Music Monday where students will showcase their creativity with the annual “Lakers Got Talent Show”. Families are welcome to attend. On Tuesday, May 5th, families of children starting school this fall are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation at 5:30 pm. Wednesday, May 6th will bring a Booknic, where families are welcome to read books with their children/grandchildren. Light snacks will be served. On Thursday, May 7th, students will play “Educator Guess Who” by matching book covers to staff favourites. The week will culminate with students enjoying various literacy and numeracy games on Friday, May 8th.
Algonquin Road Public School
Education Week at Algonquin Road Public School will kick off with Music Monday – a nationwide celebration of music. Students will join thousands across Canada in learning and performing the official Music Monday anthem “Hold On” by Triumph. At a designated time, students will participate in a cross-country sing-along. The day will also feature in-school performances and collaborative music-making across grade levels, showcasing the depth of students’ musical abilities and talents. Two teams of Grade 7 and 8 students will take part in the Ontario Skills Competition in Toronto, where they will demonstrate their innovation, teamwork and technical skills on the provincial stage. On Wednesday, May 6th, all students will take part in a painting activity inspired by Bob Ross – encouraging artistic expression and a love for visual arts. The week will conclude on Friday, May 8th with school-wide reading buddies to foster a shared love of literacy among students, followed by a community-building pancake breakfast. Throughout the week, students and families are invited to visit the Scholastic Book Fair which will include a wide range of books for all ages.
Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School is thrilled to celebrate Education Week with a variety of special events for the school community. On Tuesday, May 5th, children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation at 5 pm. The school’s annual art show will be held in the gym from 5 pm to 7 pm and will feature the creative work of Grade 4/5 students inspired by the art of Brian Jungen. Families are also welcome to visit the Scholastic Book Fair in the library, and explore a “Power of Poetry” display in the main foyer. The All-Stars proudly celebrated National Poetry Month in April by writing a series of weekly poems for sharing with the community. To wrap up Education Week, the Principal’s Council will recognize the wonderful volunteers with handmade cards and small tokens of appreciation.
Barrydowne College
For Education Week, students from Barrydowne College will attend the Rainbow District School Board EcoSummit on Monday, May 4th at Laurentian University. The school will host a “Crafting & Conversations” session on Thursday, May 7th where students can take part in a crafting activity while sharing a guided conversation about mental health strategies with a social worker.
C.R. Judd Public School
During Education Week, C.R. Judd Public School will celebrate literacy learning across the school community. Kindergarten students will welcome families for a special story time, while the SK/1 class will host a “Booknic” in the courtyard. Grade 2 families have been invited to “Game On,” a literacy and numeracy games event. Throughout the week, students will also step into the role of “reading experts” by visiting classrooms to share and model the strategies they use to decode unfamiliar words. Staff will welcome children starting school this fall and their families to Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, May 8th at 5:30 pm. On Friday, May 8th, the Grade 6/7 and 7/8 students will take part in a community clean-up, demonstrating their commitment to caring for the environment.
Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School will offer various activities throughout Education Week. On Tuesday, May 5th, students will take part in a strawberry teaching hosted by members of the M’Chigeeng community. They will also plant seeds to bring home to start their own strawberry garden. On Wednesday, May 6th, staff and student leaders will share math games in classes from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. Students and families are welcome and encouraged to join. There are prizes to be won. Students will showcase their writing throughout the school for families to enjoy, while a Scholastic Book Fair will take place in the library. Future Eagles are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation with their parents/guardians from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 6th.
Charles C. McLean Public School
Students from Charles C. McLean Public School will take part in various activities to highlight Education Week. Kicking off the week on Monday, May 4th, some students will attend the Rainbow District School Board EcoSummit at Laurentian University. On Tuesday, May 5th, children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians are invited to Kindergarten Orientation from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. That same evening, a Scholastic Book Fair will be held alongside an Art Show from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. On Wednesday, May 6th, the junior soccer team will take part in the Island Soccer Tournament in Little Current while the senior team will participate in Wikwemikong. The week will culminate with a school-wide assembly on Friday, May 8th.
Churchill Public School
Throughout Education Week at Churchill Public School, students will participate in various green initiatives including the Rainbow District School Board EcoSummit on Monday, May 4th and a school-wide book swap to promote sustainability and a love of reading. Students will also take part in Music Monday by learning and performing “Hold On” by the Canadian rock trio Triumph. Parents/guardians are welcome to participate in drumming activities with their children. Additionally, on Wednesday, May 6th, parents/guardians from select classes will be invited to join their child’s class for a math lesson – offering a firsthand look at teaching and learning in action. At 5:30 pm that same evening, children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation. As part of an ongoing kindness initiative, the school will also launch a “Coins for Care” campaign to raise funds for the Maison McCulloch Hospice.
Copper Cliff Public School
Education Week at Copper Cliff Public School will begin with a celebration of music and student talent. The concert will take place on Music Monday – May 4th at 12 pm in the gym. Family members are welcome to attend. The school will host a book fair in the library from Tuesday, May 5th until Friday, May 8th. Proceeds raised will support the purchase of books for the school. Children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, May 6th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. On Thursday, May 7th, students in Grades 3 to 8 will travel to Laurentian University for a track and field meet. The week will culminate with a school-wide collaborative art activity titled “Better Together”.
Jean Hanson Public School
Staff and students from Jean Hanson Public School are gearing up for a week full of creativity, teamwork and hands-on fun to mark Education Week. Some students will enjoy STEM challenges where they will think like real engineers by designing and building earthquake-resistant structures, creating their own working elevators and competing to build the tallest index card towers. Some students will attend the Rainbow District School Board EcoSummit on Monday, May 4th. Other classes will enjoy outdoor art with chalk by tracing letters and shapes, a nature scavenger hunt with picture cards, and sensory bubble play. Other students will take part in community excursions such as a visit to Tim Hortons and a walk to Delki Dozzi. On Wednesday, May 6th, staff will host a Family Fun Night from 6 pm to 8 pm. Families are welcome to engage in parent information sessions on various topics including the alternative curriculum, transitioning to life beyond school, mental health and well-being and sensory activities.
Lansdowne Public School
Lansdowne Public School students will celebrate Education Week with a week full of engaging learning, creativity and community connection. Students will showcase “The 29ers Leadership Adventure Trail” – a collaborative project they have been working hard to create. The school will transform into an interactive learning journey where each class contributes to themed trail stops highlighting collaboration, kindness and student leadership. Celebrations begin with Music Monday on May 4th featuring performances by the Lansdowne Choir, primary choir, Grades 1 to 3 English classes, hand drummers and Grade 8 ukulele students. Families are invited to join the Math Trail Challenge on Tuesday, May 5th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Staff will also host Storytime on the Trail, a cozy family literacy event on Wednesday, May 6th from 12 pm to 1 pm. That evening, Kindergarten Orientation will take place from 5 pm to 6:30 pm for incoming students and their families. The Book Fair will take place from Tuesday, May 5th through Thursday, May 7th followed by a Family Dance Thursday evening. The week will conclude with an energetic Play Day celebrating school spirit.
Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School will celebrate Education Week with many engaging learning opportunities for students and families. The week will begin with the first ever “Kids Vendor Sale”. Students in Grades 3 to 6 will showcase their entrepreneurial skills by selling their products in the school gym. Staff and students will also acknowledge Music Monday in classes. On Tuesday, May 5th, incoming Kindergarten students are invited to meet their future classmates for an evening of outdoor exploration from 5 pm to 6 pm. Wednesday, May 6th will feature worm composting presentations for primary students from Sudbury Shared Harvest. On Thursday, May 7th, parents/guardians are invited to a Scholastic Book Fair. Winners of the spring fundraising baskets will be drawn. Education Week will wrap-up with a volunteer appreciation breakfast which will include a performance by the school choir.
Lasalle Elementary School
Lasalle Elementary School will mark Education Week with engaging learning opportunities for students and families including buddy reading, book studies and author studies. Kindergarten families will participate in a “Curl up and Read” initiative. Other students will engage in eco-initiatives focused on pollinator flowers and nature-based visual art. Children starting school this fall are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, May 7th from 5 pm to 6 pm.
Levack Public School
Education Week at Levack Public School will begin with Music Monday on May 4th. Students will learn interesting facts about music and will work with instruments. On Tuesday, May 5th, students will build animal totems to prepare for the school’s upcoming Pow Wow “Honouring the Animals”. On Wednesday, May 6th and Thursday, May 7th, students will engage in several math, literacy and science-based activities. On Friday, May 8th, staff and students will take part in an “Honouring the Animals Field Day” to learn about the importance of animals in the cycle of life.
Lockerby Composite School
On Music Monday, May 4th, Lockerby Composite School will host a concert for Rainbow students featuring the Northern Jazz Octet in the McKellar Auditorium at 7 pm. Students will also attend Rainbow District School Board’s 3rd annual EcoSummit at Laurentian University. Grade 10 STEP students will visit Science North as “Bluecoats in training” to prepare for a Science North Day on Tuesday, May 12th with Grade 8 students from MacLeod Public School, Alexander Public School, Copper Cliff Public School and Princess Anne Public School. The Student Council will lead various events throughout the week, and the School Council will host a fundraising event on Saturday, May 2nd.
MacLeod Public School
MacLeod Public School will kick off Education week with a Music Monday concert on Monday, May 4th at 9:15 am. Children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians are invited to visit the school for Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday, May 5th from 5 pm to 6 pm. On Thursday, May 7th, MacLeod Public School alumnus and Olympic bronze medalist Tracy Fleury will visit the school to speak with students about her recent Olympic experience.
Manitoulin Secondary School
Throughout Education Week, Manitoulin Secondary School will welcome representatives from Spirit North for Indigenous games during physical education classes. Grade 9 and 10 students will take part in a career lab workshop on Wednesday, May 6th that will bring industry professionals to the school as part of the Ministry of Education’s Ontario Career Lab exploration program.
Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School has fun activities planned throughout Education Week. All students are welcome to sing along to the Music Monday song together in the gym on Monday, May 4th. On Tuesday, May 5th, staff and students will join in teams for a Numeracy Games Day. On Wednesday, May 6th, the entire school community is invited to wear yellow in recognition of Wishbone Day in honour of a student with Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Yellow lemonade and “Team Avery” pins will be sold to raise funds for the Canadian Osteogenesis Imperfecta Society. In the afternoon, students will engage in a math challenge. That evening, students starting school this fall are welcome to Kindergarten Orientation from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. On Thursday, May 7th, families are invited to visit the school for an afternoon of literacy. On Friday, May 8th, everyone is welcome to dress in green for a community clean-up. Throughout the week, students will also engage in a read aloud with Principal Lisa Puddester.
Monetville Public School
Monetville Public School will mark Education Week with a variety of engaging learning activities. On Monday, May 5th, students and staff will take part in Music Monday by exploring how music helps build community and promotes inclusion. Members of the Eco Club will attend the Rainbow District School Board EcoSummit at Laurentian University. On Wednesday, May 6th, staff will welcome children starting school and their parents/guardians for Kindergarten Orientation from 5 pm to 6 pm. On Thursday, May 7th, primary students will take part in a “Princess and Pirates Theme Day” to support their story-writing. To end the week, the entire school community will take part in a community clean-up.
Princess Anne Public School
To kick off Education Week, Princess Anne Public School will host a Math Play Day on Monday, May 4th. Parents/guardians are welcome to visit the school from 11:30 am to 1 pm in the gym for some math fun. Snacks will be provided. On Wednesday, May 6th, children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians are welcome for Kindergarten Orientation from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Staff and students from Queen Elizabeth II Public School will kick off Education Week with a Music Monday assembly highlighting songs learned by students in music class throughout the school year. On Wednesday, May 6th at 4 pm, staff will welcome children starting school this fall for Kindergarten Orientation. Students will wrap up the week on Friday, May 8th with math games to foster numeracy skills, teamwork and resilience.
R.H. Murray Public School
Staff from R.H. Murray Public School are planning a variety of fun learning activities for students. On Monday, May 4th, the entire school will celebrate Music Monday by singing the Music Monday song “Hold On” by Triumph and playing songs selected by students throughout the day. On Tuesday, May 5th, students will join their coloured house groups to complete a persuasive writing piece. On Wednesday, May 6th, classes will pair up to play math games using a deck of cards. All students will go home with a deck of cards to teach their family members the new games they’ve learned. On Thursday, May 7th, the entire school will pick up a book to showcase their love of reading. On Friday, May 8th, students are encouraged to dress in vibrant colours for Hearing Awareness Month. Students will also enjoy a school-wide creative art mural with the theme “Make it Loud”.
R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School will recognize Education Week with a Family Math Night for primary students on Monday, May 4th. The event will feature interactive activities that support numeracy learning and encourage parent engagement at home. Students will also celebrate Music Monday with performances by student soloists and ensembles. Students are invited to dress as a future career they aspire to pursue for a school-wide spirit day. The Kindness Club will show appreciation for bus drivers with prepared cards and small tokens of thanks. Kindergarten classes will also extend their learning with a visit to Dynamic Earth.
Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School students will join together to sing the Music Monday song “Hold On” by Triumph on Monday, May 4th. Staff will welcome children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians for Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, May 7th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. To promote a love of reading, Principal Katrina Nadeau and Vice-Principal Stephanie Moyle will present a read-aloud to all classes. The story will highlight perseverance and will also support the work being done through the Dare to Care program. Students are invited to participate in a school-wide math challenge involving estimation.
S. Geiger Public School
The Intermediate Construction Team from S. Geiger Public School will compete in the Ontario Skills Competition on May 3rd and 4th in Toronto. The school will host its annual “Spring Variety and Silent Auction” on Thursday, May 7th with performances in the afternoon and evening. The show “Cup of Kindness Café” will focus on kindness and positivity and will include contributions from all students. The school will also recognize Mental Health Week with daily announcements and activities to promote positive mental health.
Valley View Public School
Valley View Public School will kick off Education Week with a strong focus on environmental awareness. A group of students will attend the Rainbow District School Board’s Third Annual EcoSummit, while all staff and students will take part in a schoolyard clean-up – reinforcing our shared responsibility to care for the environment. Throughout the week, students and staff will also participate in the Spring Edition of the Math Amazing Race – an engaging activity that promotes problem-solving, teamwork and a growth mindset. In addition, classes will join together for buddy reading sessions over multiple days, providing opportunities for students to share, connect and foster a love of reading.
Walden Public School
During Education Week, Walden Public School will participate in various activities that span across the curriculum. The school choir will join Lively District Secondary School in a celebration of music for their spring concert. The school choir will sing songs including the Music Monday song “Hold On” by Triumph. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in art workshops to celebrate spring through colour. Staff are thrilled to host children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians for Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, May 7th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. A Scholastic Book Fair will take place and families are invited to join fun reading challenges.
