Lasalle Secondary School hosts first Multicultural Day

Lasalle Secondary School will host its first Multicultural Day on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Students will experience cultures from around the world through on site food trucks, vendors, community organizations, performers, music, activities and games.

“We live in a global society,” said Lasalle Secondary School Principal Kristina Rivard Gobbo. “Multicultural Day is an opportunity to build understanding of the many cultures that make our community a great place to live and our school a great place to learn.”

She added: “We look forward to welcoming Lasalle staff, students, families, and community members for a fun-filled day of food, entertainment, education and celebration.”

Multicultural Day will kick off with an opening ceremony at 11:50 am in the school gymnasium. Grades 7 to 9 students will gather for guest speakers before heading outside to experience the day’s events.

Guest speakers will include Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre, Multicultural and Folk Arts Association President Bela Ravi, Deputy Chief of Police Natalie Hiltz, and Rainbow District School Board Vice-Chair Alex McCauley.

Students in Grades 10 to 12 will join the festivities at 1 pm. Students and families from Adamsdale Public School, Churchill Public School, Markstay Public School, Northeastern Elementary School and Westmount Avenue Public School are welcome to participate in Multicultural Day from 3:30 pm to 6 pm.

“Rainbow District School Board fosters warm and welcoming learning environments that embrace all identities, lived experiences, and global perspectives,” said Chief Executive Officer Bruce Bourget. “Multicultural Day is a prime example of how we are creating a strong sense of belonging for our students and our families.”

CEO Bourget commended community leaders, volunteers, associations, organizations and businesses for supporting Multicultural Day. “When we come together, we gain a deeper appreciation and respect for our rich diversity,” he said. “Multicultural Day will be a wonderful celebration of learning and sharing.”
