Rainbow Board congratulates former Indigenous Trustee Grace Fox
Rainbow District School Board extends its congratulations to former Indigenous Trustee Grace Fox who was recognized by Laurentian University on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Special Recognition Ceremony: Honouring Anishinaabe Education Leader Grace Fox was part of a full-day gathering at the Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre on September 30, 2026.
“A long-standing member of the Board’s First Nations Advisory Committee, Grace Fox played an important role in the implementation of Ontario’s First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education policy framework in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair David Farrow.
He added: “In April 2017, the Board passed a motion mandating the creation of a Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan as a means of implementing the vision of the 94 Calls to Action in the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”
Grace Fox represented the 11 First Nations communities who had educational service agreements with the Board. She joined the Rainbow District School Board on October 17, 2005. In August 2006, she was elected First Nations Director of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association, a position she held until 2009. She served as Indigenous Trustee with the Board until 2018.
“As an Indigenous Trustee, Grace Fox was a strong advocate for student achievement and well-being, and a proud voice for Indigenous Education,” said Chair Farrow. “Trustee Fox worked with purpose and with passion to move Indigenous Education forward and made an impact that resonates to this day. Truth and Reconciliation remains a Board priority.”
