Rainbow Schools welcome 16,442 students when classes resume
Rainbow District School Board will welcome 16,442 students in Rainbow Schools when classes resume on Tuesday, September 5th, 2006.
Parents/guardians are reminded that the first day of school will end 30 minutes earlier.
According to official predicted enrolment for the start of the 2006-2007 school year, enrolment will continue to remain stable.
In the elementary panel, enrolment will total 9,825 students including 7,268 in the English Program and 2,557 in the French Immersion Program.
In the secondary panel, enrolment is expected to reach 6,617 students including 5,837 in the English Program and 780 in the French Immersion Program.
Enrolment is calculated as full-time equivalents.
This fall, 836 children are expected to enter Junior Kindergarten in Rainbow Schools.
A total of 890 children have enrolled in Senior Kindergarten, which includes the Literacy Enriched Activity Program (LEAP).
A total of 1,475 students have registered for Grade 9 classes in area Rainbow Schools.
Official enrolment data will be available at the end of October.
Rainbow District School Board is the largest school board in Northern Ontario with 40 elementary schools and 9 secondary schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin.
The Board covers a geographic area of more than 14,000 square kilometres in the heart of Rainbow Country.
