Students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin and Shining Tree will receive a Guide for Students and Parents the first week of school.  The guide contains information that will serve as an important reference throughout the school year.

“On behalf of Trustees, I would like to welcome all students and parents/guardians to Rainbow Schools and the start of another exciting school year,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair, Tyler Campbell. “In partnership with the home and the community, our dedicated teachers and support staff members are committed to helping all students reach their full potential and achieve success. We encourage parents/guardians to take an active interest in their child’s education. We also invite community partners to help us mentor and nurture their future workforce.”

“The Guide for Students and Parents is a first step in our efforts to enhance communication between the home and the school,” said Rainbow District School Board Director of Education, Norm Blaseg. “We invite parents/guardians to keep this publication in a handy place and refer to it throughout the school year. The Board’s website is also an invaluable source of general information and current news. It can be accessed by visiting rainbowschools.ca.”

The Guide for Students and Parents features information about services, programs and policies, including the Code of Conduct, the inclement weather policy, and an anaphylaxis alert that talks about severe allergies to nut products. The Guide also includes a directory of schools and key contacts, a calendar of school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days and open houses, as well as information about School Councils and opportunities to volunteer.

The Guide for Students and Parents is available online at www.rainbowschools.ca

The new school year begins the day after Labour Day. The first day of school will be on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 for all area school boards, including Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario.
