Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School raises funds for Heart and Stroke
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School is raising funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation during Heart Month. Students will canvass their school community for donations until Monday, February 21st, 2011. Everyone is invited to give generously when students go door-to-door.
“Student Council members at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School have, once again, selected the Heart and Stroke Foundation as their charity,” says Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School Principal Craig Runciman. “Last year, students and staff raised $5,000 for research. We hope to surpass that total this year.”
In addition to the evening canvassing, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will host “Hoops for Heart” on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. This three-on-three basketball tournament will involve students and staff.
Each participant had to raise a minimum of $50 in order to take part in the competition. Lo-Ellen Park’s first ‘Hoops for Heart’ raised over $2,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Students and staff look forward to another successful event this year.
“In Rainbow Schools, character education is an important part of everything that we do as we give students opportunities to develop leadership and citizenship skills,” says Principal Runciman. “Our students and staff care about the community in which they live and want to do their part to promote healthy living. Supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation will not only raise funds for an important cause, it will also increase awareness.”
