Espanola High School on Rick Mercer Report on Tuesday, March 29th

Rainbow District School Board invites the community to tune into CBC Television for the Rick Mercer Report on Tuesday, March 29th at 8 pm. The show will feature Rick Mercer’s visit to Espanola High School – the top high school in Canada in this year’s Spread the Net campaign.

“We commend Espanola High School for raising an impressive amount of money for bednets to help protect children in Africa from malaria,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair Tyler Campbell. “Through the Rick Mercer Report, Espanola High School will have an opportunity to share its local success story with viewers across Canada.”

Espanola High School raised more than $13,000 for Spread the Net. “This is a tribute to students and staff who, under the leadership of Student Parliament Prime Minister Tristan Emiry, canvassed local neighbourhoods and businesses for donations,” said Principal Marty Punkari.

He added: “We thank the community of Espanola for giving generously to this worthy cause. Our success is their success and Rick Mercer’s visit to Espanola High School is the happy outcome. We had a great time taping the show and look forward to seeing the broadcast.”

Members of the public can get a sneak preview by logging onto Spartan Youth Radio at http://spartanyouthradio.com. The site features an interview with Rick Mercer as well as photos from his recent visit. Spartan Youth Radio is the only high school podcast radio station in Canada.
