Sudbury Construction Association supports student success in Tech Skills

Sudbury Construction Association Executive Director Denis Shank, left, and President Anthony Nutt, far right, visited Lockerby Composite School’s carpentry lab on Thursday, April 28, 2011 to present a donation of $2,500 towards the cost of transportation for students participating in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition.  Accepting the donation on behalf of Rainbow District School Board are Technological Skills Competition Chair Leo Leclair and Lockerby Composite School student Bobby-Jo Elliot. Bobby-Jo Elliot will be among the students from Rainbow Schools competing in the provincial event in Waterloo from May 2 to 4, 2011.


Students from Rainbow Schools will participate in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition in Waterloo from May 2 to 4, 2011 with support from the Sudbury Construction Association. The Sudbury Construction Association has donated $2,500 towards the cost of transportation.

“We would like to thank the Sudbury Construction Association and its members for going the extra mile to support student success,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair Tyler Campbell. “Through this generous contribution, the Sudbury Construction Association is helping to nurture our future workforce in the trades. We are proud of our provincial competitors and wish everyone continued success.” 

Denis Shank, the Executive Director of the Sudbury Construction Association, visited Lockerby Composite School’s carpentry lab on Thursday, April 28, 2011 where he presented the donation to Technological Skills Competition Chair Leo Leclair and event participant Bobby-Jo Elliot. Bobby-Jo Elliot, who accepted the donation on behalf of the competitors, won the honour of participating in the Carpentry Individual Competition at the provincial level after the northern qualifying round in North Bay.

“The Sudbury Construction Association welcomes this opportunity to encourage young people to consider the trades as possible career paths,” said Denis Shank. “Our members represent a dynamic and diverse sector. We recognize that we have an important role to play in helping young people develop their skills in the trades.” He added: “The Sudbury Construction Association congratulates all participants in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition. We are delighted that we have been able to make the journey possible.”
