Partners come together to support Sudbury Minga for Maasai

The Sudbury Minga for Maasai Adopt a Village Matching Partner Program has been a tremendous success. During the 2010-2011 school year, Cyril Varney Public School and the New Sudbury Chiropractic and Wellness Centre donated $3,640 to this Free the Children project, a shining example of Community helping Community – locally and globally.

Funds were raised in a number of ways. The team at the New Sudbury Chiropractic and Wellness Centre collected donations as part of a tree decorating campaign held in December.  The contributions were enhanced by personal donations from Dr. Sherrie Guillet, Dr. Clark Michlowski and Dr. Michael Staffen.

In June, student leaders at Cyril Varney Public School spearheaded a Water Walk, helping their peers learn about global poverty and how to take action to make a positive difference. Recognizing the passion and power of youth, Principal Ron Hodkinson eagerly encouraged all student leaders and participants to join together for this common cause. A total of 2,000 students from Rainbow Schools participated in the event.

“Many thanks to Cyril Varney Public School and the New Sudbury Chiropractic and Wellness Centre for helping to empower the people of Pimbiniet, a rural Maasai Mara community in Kenya, to acquire the tools and skills they need to create sustainable changes in their lives,” says Lori Adams, Co-ordinator of Sudbury Minga for Maasai.

She adds: “These generous proceeds are contributing to building a school for students in Grades 1 to 8, providing a daily nutritional meal to school children, implementing alternative income programs for community members, delivering health care and sanitation programs, and building a community well and a system of pipelines and kiosks to ensure clean water for the entire community.”
