Students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin and Shining Tree will receive a Guide for Students and Parents the first week of school.  The guide contains important information that will serve as a handy reference throughout the school year.

“On behalf of Trustees, I would like to welcome all students and parents/guardians to Rainbow Schools and the start of another exciting school year,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair, Tyler Campbell. “Rainbow Schools are great places to learn in English and French Immersion from the early years to secondary school. We also focus on character development as we look to build responsible and respectful citizens who care about each other and the world in which they live.”

Chair Campbell added: “We encourage parents/guardians to take an active interest in their child’s education. We also invite community partners to help us mentor and nurture their future workforce. When the home, the school and the community work together, we maximize learning opportunities for students and help them achieve their full potential.”

“In this school year, we will continue to offer full day every day Junior Kindergarten in our elementary schools as we introduce the Early Learning Program for four and five-year-olds into more locations,” said Director of Education, Norm Blaseg. “At the secondary level, we remain committed to engaging students in dynamic learning opportunities that value and support all pathways – work, independent living, apprenticeship, college and university.”

Director Blaseg added: “The Guide for Students and Parents is our first step to enhance communication between the home and the school. Parents/guardians are invited to refer to the publication throughout the school year. The Board’s website is also an invaluable source of general information and current news.”

The Guide for Students and Parents features information about services, programs and policies, including the Code of Conduct, the inclement weather policy, and an anaphylaxis alert that talks about severe allergies to nut products. The Guide also includes a directory of schools and key contacts, a calendar of school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days and open houses, as well as information about School Councils and opportunities to volunteer.

The Guide for Students and Parents is available online at www.rainbowschools.ca
