Community invited to International Dinner/Silent Auction on April 21, 2012

Rainbow District School Board invites the community to enjoy cuisine from around the world at its second International Dinner and Silent Auction in support of the Joan Mantle Music Trust. The dinner, which will feature a keynote speaker as well as student entertainment, will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 6 pm at the ParkSide Older Adult Centre, 140 Durham Street, in Sudbury. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of new instruments in Rainbow Schools.

Tickets are $50 per person (with a $30 tax receipt provided upon request) and tables of eight are $400 (with a $240 tax receipt provided upon request). Tickets can be purchased at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, 170 Shaughnessy Street, 705-674-8381. Tickets are also available at area Rainbow secondary schools or by contacting Ralph McIntosh at 705-523-3308, ext. 8250, email [email protected].

“Our inaugural International Dinner was an outstanding success, raising over $12,000 for the Joan Mantle Music Trust,” said Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “We look forward to celebrating our diversity by presenting our second International Dinner. The dinner will feature foods from around the world enjoyed in an atmosphere of fun and friendship as well as musical entertainment provided by students from some of our secondary school music programs.”

Bela Ravi, a community representative on the Joan Mantle Music Trust Steering Committee, encourages everyone to mark their calendar and plan to attend the International Dinner once again this year. “This wonderful event in support of the Joan Mantle Music Trust will ensure that the Trust continues to grow for years to come and benefit students in Rainbow Schools,” she said.

Musical entertainment will showcase talented students from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Confederation Secondary School, Sudbury Secondary School, Lively District Secondary School and Lasalle Secondary School. The menu will feature a wide variety of foods including spring rolls from the Philippines, Middle Eastern hummus and pita bread, Greek salad, and Italian pasta, as well as British pork tenderloin and butter chicken from India. Desserts will feature fare from Holland, Finland and Canada.

The Joan Mantle Music Trust was established in the fall of 2008 to help refresh, modernize and revitalize school music programs in the Rainbow District School Board. The Joan Mantle Music Trust allocates funds to school music programs in Rainbow District School Board, one school at a time. This ensures that there is a tangible improvement in the condition of equipment in an entire department, allowing for students to achieve more in their musical studies together.
