Effective September 2014, Lasalle Secondary School and Sudbury Secondary School will share a boundary in a small section of the City of Greater Sudbury. Grade 8 students from all school boards who live in this area will now be able to choose either school and be eligible for transportation. Lasalle Secondary School and Sudbury Secondary School offer both English and French Immersion programs.
The area encompasses the west side of Second Avenue North and the west side of Notre-Dame Avenue. The west side of Notre-Dame Avenue includes Mitchell Street, Kent Court Road, Kent Street, O’Grady Street, Lorraine Street, Crescent Park Road, Gordon Avenue, Thomas Street, Patie Street, Paul Street, the section of Lasalle Boulevard between Notre-Dame Avenue and Collège Boréal, the section of Notre-Dame Avenue from Turner Avenue up to but not including Newgate, and Frood Road north of Turner Street.
“The boundary change will have a positive impact on all Grade 8 students living in this section of the City of Greater Sudbury,” said Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. “Students will have more options for their secondary school education as they make the transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9.”
Also at the Board meeting on January 28, 2014, trustees decided that the newly-renovated Sudbury Secondary School will retain its French Immersion program.
No further accommodation, program and/or boundary reviews will occur in 2014.
