Revised budget estimates were presented to trustees at the regular meeting of Rainbow District School Board on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Higher enrolment for the 2013-2014 school year has resulted in a surplus of $1.2 million.
Actual enrolment at October 31st, 2013 totalled 13,762 students. The elementary panel recorded the most significant increase, with more Junior Kindergarten students enrolling in Rainbow Schools than anticipated.
“This is good news for our students, our staff and our schools,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair Doreen Dewar.
“While we continue to experience declining enrolment, the loss has not been as great as we had anticipated for the current school year,” she said. “This will help to mitigate the overall impact of the declining enrolment that has occurred over the past decade due to fewer school age children.”
She added: “We are proud of the exceptional programs that we offer in our quality facilities and are delighted to welcome more families into Rainbow Schools.”
