Rainbow District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Pamela Potvin as Principal of Chelmsford Valley District Composite School effective Monday, February 3rd, 2014. She replaces Mike Mirka who has assumed the role of Principal at Cecil Facer Secondary School.
Pamela Potvin grew up in Azilda where she attended Chelmsford Public School and Chelmsford Valley District Composite School. “My family was actively involved in the community through sports,” she said. “We spent a great deal of time in the arenas and on the baseball fields.” She added: “I am delighted to assume my new role as Principal of my former high school and welcome the opportunity to work in a community that has a special place in my heart. What a privilege!”
After graduating from Chelmsford Valley District Composite School in 1990, Pamela Potvin attended Laurentian University where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. She obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario.
Since joining Rainbow District School Board in 1996, Pamela Potvin has served in a number of roles at many secondary schools, including teacher, program leader, student success teacher, guidance counselor and vice-principal. Throughout her career, she has worked at Northeastern Secondary School, Sudbury Secondary School, Lockerby Composite School and, most recently, Lasalle Secondary School where she has been a Vice-Principal since 2007.
“I strongly believe in the community school, where students can work, learn and play in the community in which they live,” she said. She added: “I look forward to working with the students, staff, parents/guardians and school community in my new role as Principal.”
