Early Learning – Kindergarten being offered at all Rainbow Schools

Early Learning – Kindergarten, a full-day program for four and five-year-olds, will be offered in all Rainbow Schools when classes resume on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Schools are expected to welcome 1,541 children in the program.
“We are in the final year of implementation for Early Learning – Kindergarten,” says Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “Rainbow District School Board offered full day, every day Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten in all Rainbow Schools as the program was being phased in.” 
He added: “All four and five-year-olds will now participate in Early Learning – Kindergarten with a teacher and Early Childhood Educator. Children will continue to be involved in exciting projects that interest them and engage them in dynamic classroom environments designed to maximize learning through play.”
Early Learning – Kindergarten was launched in September 2010 at Churchill Public School, Lansdowne Public School, Princess Anne Public School, Queen Elizabeth Public School and A.B. Ellis Public School. 
Three more schools began offering Early Learning in the second phase of implementation in September 2011 – Adamsdale Public School, C.R. Judd Public School and Central Manitoulin Public School. 
The program was introduced in eight schools in September 2012 – Algonquin Road Public School, Charles C. McLean Public School, Cyril Varney Public School, Little Current Public School, Monetville Public School, Northeastern Elementary School, Redwood Acres Public School and R.L. Beattie Public School. 
The program was introduced at four more schools in September 2013 – Alexander Public School, Copper Cliff Public School, MacLeod Public School and Valley View Public School.
The program will be introduced in 12 more schools in September 2014, the final year of implementation – Assiginack Public School, Chelmsford Public School, Ernie Checkeris Public School, Larchwood Public School, Levack Public School, Markstay Public School, M.W. Moore Public School, R.H. Murray Public School, S. Geiger Public School, Walden Public School, Webbwood Public School and Westmount Avenue Public School.
Registration information
Rainbow District School Board reminds parents/guardians to register their children for Early Learning – Kindergarten if they have not done so already. Children must be four years of age by December 31st. 
For more information or to register, please contact the Rainbow School nearest you or visit rainbowschools.ca. If registering your child for the first time, please bring his/her identification documents including birth certificate, birth registry/baptismal certificate, Ontario Health Card, and an immunization record.
The first day of school is Wednesday, September 3, 2014 for all area school boards, including Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario. There will be no early dismissal on the first day. The day after Labour Day (Tuesday, September 2, 2014) is a professional activity day.
