Central Manitoulin Public School will host its annual Fall Fair on Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the J.H. Burt Memorial Arena in Mindemoya. The public is invited to attend.
“To my knowledge, the Fall Fair is the only remaining school fall fair in Ontario,” says Principal Tracey Chapman. “This century old tradition, which started in 1912, is a wonderful celebration for staff, students, parents/guardians and members of the community who can participate in fun activities for all ages and all generations.”
On Monday, September 8th, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, an open house will take place at the arena. Parents/guardians will have an opportunity to meet teachers. Participants will enjoy exhibits of crafts, flowers, baking and student work, as well as a live dog show that will take place at 7 pm.
On Tuesday, September 9th, at 9 am, students will parade from Central Manitoulin Public School to the arena. The animal exhibit and judging will take place from 9 am to 11 am, followed by the annual Fall Feast at the school.
A representative from Northern Ontario Agri-Food Education & Marketing Inc. will accept registrations for the annual “Giant Pumpkin Growing Contest” at the fair until noon on Tuesday, September 9th. Participants are being challenged to grow the largest pumpkin to beat the record of 237 kilograms (522.5 pounds).
“This is such an exciting time of the year for us at Central Manitoulin Public School,” says Principal Tracey Chapman. “I would like to commend the dedicated teachers and volunteers who helped organize the event, our sponsors, and the hard working students and families who participate in the exhibits each year. Without them, the fair would not be possible.”
