Northeastern Elementary School auctions student artwork for Fort McMurray
When the Grade 7 and 8 French Immersion students at Northeastern Elementary School ventured out to paint and sketch their school community, they were pleasantly surprised with the results.
What they captured on their canvases and in their sketchbooks was the beauty, character and architectural history of Garson – works of art that will be showcased at an upcoming gala and silent auction to raise funds for Fort McMurray.

“We not only wanted to share the results of our efforts, we wanted to put these unique pieces of artwork to good use and auction them off to help Fort McMurray,” says Principal Randy Wallingford.
The artwork will be showcased in the Communities Helping Communities Art Gallery in the cafeteria at Northeastern Elementary School on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.
A silent auction of the students’ artwork will be open to the general public from 6 pm to 8 pm. Admission is a donation at the door, with all proceeds going to Fort McMurray relief efforts through the Canadian Red Cross.
“After all of their hard work and dedication, our students are excited and thrilled to be able to help the community of Fort McMurray by displaying and selling their artistic creations,” says Principal Wallingford.
He added: “They have put in countless hours preparing for this event, under the leadership of teacher Nadia Allen, and look forward to the exhibition and sale. Everyone is welcome.”
Northeastern Elementary School is located at 45 Spruce Street in Garson.
