2006-2007 Annual Report for Rainbow Schools now available

Rainbow District School Board’s Annual Report for the 2006-2007 school year is now available online at www.rainbowschools.ca.

School Boards are required to produce an Annual Report in accordance with The Education Act. The Annual Report provides an overview of the key activities undertaken by Rainbow District School Board to address its strategic priorities during the 2006-2007 school year. It also offers an overview of the current Board budget with a focus on improved student achievement and success for all.

“Ongoing investments in public education continued to have a positive impact on student achievement in Rainbow Schools,” said Trustee Dena Morrison, who served as Board Chair during the past school year. In her message, she indicated that these investments included reduced class sizes in the primary grades; funding for literacy and numeracy; additional support for art, music, physical education and outdoor education programs; support for First Nations, Métis and Inuit education; more specialist teachers in elementary schools; student success teachers in secondary schools; and the introduction of innovative programs such as the Specialist High Skills Major, dual credits and expanded experiential learning opportunities.

“We commend the Province of Ontario for giving students an education advantage in all pathways – work, independent living, apprenticeships, college and university,” she said. She added: “New investments in education, revitalized programs and facilities, caring and committed staff, and powerful partnerships between the home, school and community enabled Rainbow Schools to meet its mission of reaching minds and touching hearts.”

Copies of the 2006-2007 Annual Report can be obtained at the Board Office, Centre for Education, 408 Wembley Drive, and area Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin.
