Home of the Heat
The Rainbow District School Board’s latest green school opened in November of 2009 and offers English and French Immersion programs to students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 in state-of-the-art facilities. It is a wonderful school nestled in the community of Lively. Our motto is, “Acting today, shaping tomorrow”.
Walden Public School has an outstanding staff of dedicated professionals who provide a dynamic education for all students. As a caring community we foster an environment that is inclusive and equitable, ensuring that all students feel safe and have a strong sense of belonging.
Athletic opportunities abound at Walden Public School. Our junior students participate in cross-country running, cross-country skiing, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, badminton, track and field and relay teams. While we value competitive teams, we also recognize the importance of offering opportunities through intramurals to develop skills and a love of the game in elementary school.
In addition, students are offered a variety of clubs to spur budding interests. Primary Choir, Ukulele Club, Green Machine, Lego Club, Math Club, Coding Club and Art Club offer multiple ways of seeing success and result in well rounded, happy students.
Academic goals that focus on individual strengths and next steps are the foundation of our daily work. Full day, every day Kindergarten has been in effect since the fall of 2010. When students begin at Walden they have the choice to pick the French Immersion Program or the Regular Program. Students in the Regular Program at Walden begin French as a Second Language instruction for 150 minutes a week beginning in Grade 4, while students in French Immersion are immersed in French beginning in JK until Grade 3, when they receive one hour of English instruction per day.
Walden Public School has an active School Council. Through their hard work and dedication towards fundraising and organizing events, such as our Family Spring Fair, we are ready to break ground and install the first phase of our new play structure that embraces creative play within the natural environment. We view parents as our partners and recognize we can not do the work we do at Walden without their support and participation.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you want to know more about the amazing team and the work we do at Walden, home of the Heat!
