Rainbow instrumental music groups capture top honours at national level

Three Rainbow District School Board instrumental music groups captured top honours at MusicFest Canada this year.

Lasalle Secondary School’s Guitar Ensemble, under the leadership of teacher Marc Savard, earned a gold medal. Kyle Millar received the Honour Award for his performance.

Lively District Secondary School’s Grade 7 and 8 Concert Bands were awarded silver and gold respectively. Both bands are under the leadership of teacher Cory Ross.

Grade 7 Concert Band member, Amadeo Pianosi, won the Honour Award for percussion.
Raija Walli, from the Grade 8 Concert Band, received the Honour Award for the bass clarinet.

“We are very proud of our talented musicians and their teachers,” said Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “Congratulations to Lasalle Secondary School and Lively District Secondary School on their impressive achievement at the national level.”

MusicFest Canada was held in Niagara Falls on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
